seabass Posted September 17, 2017 Share Posted September 17, 2017 Evaporation causes the SG to rise, so I'm not sure why you would choose not to start at 1.009. An ATO is ideal, but it can be done with manual top offs. You'll find it takes a lot of water to drop the specific gravity to 1.009. Likewise, the expense comes when you raise SG back up. You'll go through a lot of salt mix to raise it back up. When raising SG, top off with 1.022 saltwater. Also, perform a couple of small water changes with 1.022 saltwater each week.
