Kijho
maybe your aiptasias are sucking up all the nutrients for you =P. Seriously - I haven't seen them doing anything negative yet, nothing seems too impacted by them. But, they are beginning to get out of hand. Like, I used to have one or two - I woke up the other morning and there's just clusters all packed together. Seriously - an aiptasia garden. Do you have any idea about one of my previous posts Re: nitrates being impacted by the removal of that bubble algae? I haven't seen any effects as of yet but I was a bit worried. Link to comment
hey
diversity is what lets people go long periods without water changes in many cases I have observed. A mature system has loads of diversity and it water changes seem to do more harm than good in some cases (like with clams). I am not advocating never do a water change, I am advocating stable parameters with a higher nutrient level than what is popularly kept by sps tanks utilizing ULNS methods. Link to comment

Kijho
those acans are so fluffy! Love them! One of my favorite corals and each time I look at them I love them more! Except ... one is getting too fat and touching the glass. But, it's glued down soooo..... Also, forgot to post this: Should I (would you) trade in my emerald crab and swap it for another small emerald crab? My LFS doesn't really do trades/ swaps but I ended up speaking with the manager and he was very cool and offered to do that for me a swap, crab for a crab. Because, my current emerald doesn't care at all about bubble algae.... or really any algae for that matter LOL. He's a herbivore who eats mysis.. ? So, he offered to trade. Thinking about doing it in hopes of finding a bubble-munching emerald, but I know it's a gamble. I mean, I'm not overly attached to my emerald but he's certainly a cool little guy and I enjoy watching him going after the food when I feed, and enjoy watching him skitter across the sand bed. Also funny to watch him pick things from the snails shell.. he's overly friendly! Link to comment

It really won't affect your bioload too much. Since your WC schedule is non-existent, I'd say you'd be fine with that. No need to part with a friend. And get the damn peppermint already... I'd consider the friendliness of the current emerald crab over the friendliness of most emerald crabs. I like when my inhabitants are out and about so if most emerald crabs are hiders, I wouldn't want to get rid of the friendly one. But, I suppose it also depends how much bubble algae you have and how badly you want to get rid of it! Link to comment

It's pretty bad and beginning to spread, I am starting to see small single bubble pop up in spots. Would like something to take care of them for me effortlessly. My emerald is still a hider - I don't see him often except when I feed! Link to comment

Kijho
Soooooo... picked up a new baby emerald crab today. I hope he's hungry for some bubble algae... I also hope that he motivates my other lazy ass emerald to eat algae too .... aaaaaaaaaand a minute after posting this, I placed the crab in the tank (after acclimating). Where does the crab decide to go? To my bubble algae? To my corals? To the other emerald crab? Out of all the possibilities .... he chose to walk STRAIGHT into the shrimp's cave ... not a single once of fear. Shrimp began snapping like crazy, and now I can see the crab is kinda wedged "trapped" in the cave. So, I took the magnet and kinda pushed the front entrance of his cave to provoke the shrimp to come out and clean/ fix it ... hoping the crab can somehow get out :( :( If not, it's gonna be a $9 dinner for my shrimp :( Link to comment
