hey, how's that slimer doing?

i lost everything except for the original encrusted base that i had from my old 29g.

every other frag i made from it slowly necrosed no matter what i did.

It's doing good. Hasn't really done much though :(

It encrusted a bunch and is super green and colored up. It's actually starting to finally show tip growth.

Let me know when u want me to send you a piece back. I'll throw in some other stuff I got.

Sorry about your stuff dying on ya.

the original piece i had encrusted like mad before it got growth tips, but then it exploded. it did take a while.

not much is dying as far as i know. just that picky slimer and some STN the hawkins. I'm not sure how that's going actually.

I did have a nasty alk consumption spike the week before i left and i was scrambling to get it all balanced out before i headed back to boise.

Idk when i'll be home next, but i'll definitely take you up on that offer! ;)

The tank has had so many ups and downs. I honestly don't know. When I was running zeovit I was feeding like a mad man to keep my corals alive. It was so effective at stripping the water that I had to feed like crazy! I have a feeling all that caught up to me now.

Nutrients do play a role but the bryopsis comes in on a frag. I should know, I can even trace it. I still don't know what caused mine to recede for nearly 4-5 months, but it's back again. Also, I wish I knew how it reproduces way on the other side of the tank with no contact, does it spore? If so, could a UV help?

Happy Birthday Alex :flower:

Happy to report the bryopsis nightmare is almost over. I haven't been on the forums much, but figured this could be beneficial to everyone!

I started my tech-m treatment dosig about 100ml daily. I did this for about 5 days. My mg was rising kinda slow, but I started to notice a couple small patches of clear bryopsis. The bryopsis was so bad at this point, it was smothering corals and covered literally every inch of rock. I decided to go big or go home. The clear patches of bryopsis was a clear indicator the treatment was working, but I was going to need a lot more tech-m to get it done. I went ahead and dosed 500ml of tech between 2 days. Fast forward to today and almost every single strand of bryopsis is gone. I have a couple corals that look a little pissed off, but it was a sacrifice I was willing to make. Hopefully I don't loose anything. I'm going to do a water change today and refresh my gfo.

Tech-m treatments def work, i just think some people don't use enough. My mag was barely over 1500 and it killed every last bit.

I'm so glad you beat it. I have to be honest - I couldn't do the Tech M, maybe frags don't care but my colonies weren't looking so hot - not to mention lethargic inverts and deaths among them. (Verified with John Maloney that high magnesium can cause this).

Hey Kat. Happy bday to you also!!

Your absolutely right, the bryopsis came in on a frag plug. What I think happen, is that in the process of me "dirtying" up the tank, it was able to thrive. What surprised me is that my nutrients have never been out of control. While they did go up a little bit when I stopped zeovit, they were still on the lower side. This stuff is the devil and doesn't need much to thrive. My tank was covered in about a week or 2 .

About the tech-m. I haven't seen any super bad reactions. I raised it slowly the first couple days. After the first week things were looking better, but I decided to go HAM. I dosed about 500ml in a couple days, it completely wiped out the bryopsis! Now I've just been dosing about 80ml a day and plan to keep that up for another week or 2. So far, I haven't lost anything. A couple pissed off sps, but they should make it just fine.

Man, I hope mine goes away soon. My bryopsis issue was not nearly as bad as yours, but I have dosed 60ml, 80ml, 120ml, and 100ml for the past 4 nights and the bryopsis doesn't seem to be much effected. It may be starting to turn slightly clear, but still growing. Luckily, I can agree that I have not seen any ill effects of dosing so much.

They came in yesterday! New arrays look awesome. Waiting on some info from Dave and I'll get to work! Dying to get them in today, but I'm not 100% sure on how to wire them. Don't want burnt leds for breakfast.

Sooooo...I've been holding out a little on you guys :)

I want to share my new project with you! I took over a local store last month and have been putting a ton of work into it. I'm really excited and want to start sharing the progress with you guys! The store was called Coral Reef Aquariums. It's in longwood and some of the locals may know it. The store is under heavy renovations, but it turning out fantastic. We should be up and running in another week. We are shooting for a soft opening this week, and hopefully the grand opening the beginning of next week. Come check me out guys! Just ask for Alex :)

I'm still figuring out names, but it looks like we are going with Modern Aquaria or Modern Aquatics. Here's some of the progress so far

First day I walked in. In need of a little facelift :)

Ripped off the ceiling, stripped the floors, and started building the new fish wall.

I'll update the thread as the store gets ready for the opening. If this is against any ruled mods, just let me know. I just thought it would be cool to share a little progress on the new project.

Thanks guys! I've been very curious about entering the industry for some time. The oppurtunity presented itself and I went for it!

Congratulations Alex. What exciting news in the new year. Please tell me you will ship.

Yes we will! Right now I'm just getting all the hard stuff done. Once we are all setup, I will def become a supporter and vendor for the site. Hope to spread some amazing corals around NanoReef!
