what was spawning on your glass?

Sea urchin if I'm not mistaken. Either that or mithrax crab larvae. I'm quite happy that the water is conducive for spawning. That's twice now that it's happened since I started the 15G. :)

Yeah, pistol and mantis would not be best friends, in an hour's time there probably would be one left.

I could imagine so!

Well, I finally have my third successful spawning occurring right now in the tank. My anthias is going nuts over it. She's zipping all over the place and eating as many larvae/eggs as she can swallow in a mouthful. Reminds me of a pink pacman in a way. ;)

Holy molly thats pretty cool.

Thank you! And yeah, it's amazing. :)

Free food! Gotta love that. Now you just need to catch a spawn on video!

Yes lol, both my anthias and clown were competing with each other to see who could eat the most spawn in a single gulp. It was pretty funny to watch lol. I tried catching a video, but my camera (both phone and my dad's) isn't powerful enough to zoom in at macro mode and snag a proper vid of what's going on. :(

Which is kinda sad, because I really wanted to show it to all of you. It was quite amazing to watch.

Also, on a second note, my corals are finally regaining all their lost coloring. Goni is turning purple again, red lobed brain (initially bleached) is slowly turning red again, and even my Implosion palys are going green again. I just finished scrubbing most of the sides of my tank using a hard-ridged toothbrush, but the coralline algae is hard to get rid of. I'm leaving the coralline on the sandbed untouched however, mostly because I find the coloring a bit cool. B)

if your tank is glass, just use a plastic card like a credit card or driver's license. Or regular razor blade, it'll clean anything on the glass, won't scratch.

Okay, will try the blade trick. Thanks for the tip. :)

Just wanted to let everyone know I just came out of the hospital two days ago, and am slowly recovering back at home. Dad fed the tanks, but I think he might have put in a bit too much pellets in the marine one because I have a little bit of cyano on one of the upper rocks.

Will siphon it out later.

Oh, and I got this fella over here:

He's such a badass that I named him Loki. He's a 4" Cardisoma armatum (Rainbow crab) - couldn't get a Halloween since they sold out pretty quickly. He's now on Sinking Cichlid pellets and chopped shrimp. Poops more than my turtle as well. :P

I'm keeping him in a holding tank that's a Pico, and I gather he's not too happy about it. But I need to set up a small 10G or 12G Paladrium for him, and I'm not strong enough to drive anywhere yet for the moment. I'm guessing I'll need to pick up some soil, plants (my mum loves going plant shopping, so no problems here), a glass tank with a lid, and some compact lighting.

So far I love him - he's very fun to watch, especially when he grooms himself with his claws. :)

On second thought, I'll probably be getting this for him:

Add some crystal black sand at the bottom, a soil partition at the back with some plants (that I can nick from my mum's garden), put in a small piece of Malayan driftwood, maybe two to three inches of water, wah lah! :)

What were you in the hospital for if you don't mind me asking? I would go with the 10 or 12 since the exo terra are more for height.

That crab is awesome.

TLE attack(s). I'm slowly regaining my physical skills, but it'll take a while to bounce back to full strength. I'm more concerned with the mild GHA and cyano I see making a comeback. Hmmm.

Thank you, and I'll look into either getting a tall exo terra (if I can afford it) or a similar tall tank, or maybe a second hand cast off from my LFS. I think I can convert a regular long tank (glass) into a paludarium of sorts, provided they give a lid. Loki is kinda strong and snippy. I had to pin his tank lid down with a whole container of Febreeze because he's like an escaping ninja. <_<

Get well soon. Paladriums are sweet. The crab might like the tall actually if you can find one since the rainbow crab likes to dig burrows in banks along rivers. You could Make a bank going up the tank with a pool at the bottom with sand and vines coming down the bank...... Oh man maybe I need to do a paladrium.

Sorry to hear you were out but glad you're back home. Take it easy. DId you have some kind of damage to your head that causes that? or what are the causes? I don't know anything about it.

After you get better you can try the razor to clean the glass on the tank you were talking about. Tons faster than a toothbrush.

The funny thing is that I've never had any physical trauma to the head in my life. But I was born premature by 1.5 months, and in most cases, the onset of TLE is in the late teens to mid-twenties (where I'm at) and is idiopathic (no known cause). But there's a possibility of a brain lesion that's causing it. The peak time is now, so I'll have a lot of seizures and discomfort over the next 2 to 3 years until the lesion heals on its own. Prime cause of lesions includes brain damage (which I don't have), or brain infection (which I might have) or even a genetic predisposition. Ultimately there isn't enough scientific research done on the subject to back any of this up, so we're all operating on theories. Right now we're focusing on drug therapy, exercise, nutrition, counselling and emotional support more than anything. One of my specialists suspects I have Mesial Temporal Sclerosis which is causing the TLE, but I'll need extensive testing done four states away to prove it. Plus the only option then would be neurosurgery, radiotherapy or maybe chemo (if they find a tumor or cancer), which I don't want.

I'd rather die a short, happy life than a miserable, dragged-out one.

I'll try to use the razor trick today. Right now my Phosphates peaked again because I stirred the sandbed (itchy fingers, I know), and I have another mini algae bloom. It's not as bad as the first, but is still unsightly. I'm hoping to hit Desaru beach to harvest some fresh macro for my tank. :)

Also, I can't afford the Exo Terra glass terrarium - too pricey, so I'll have to go for a 10G long again. Thinking of putting a small bamboo plant in there, then scaping it to a drop that tapers off to a riverbed sort of thing. Might put in a money plant vine in there, and maybe a small red molly or two (because wherever there's water, there'll be mosquito larvae). I'll keep everyone updated on my progress, don't worry. :)

mosquito larvae? ewwww  Is the tank outside or do that many just sneak in your house?

I live in the Tropics, where dengue fever is rampant. :P

And nope, none of my tanks are outside, silleh. :slap:

ha.

Well, I was born 3 mos premie so I guess I was fortunate to not have that occurrence. Being born in 71 and 3 mos premie was a big deal. Glad I made it.

LOL! Oh, but they do, Tam...they do...They get into the house and even the cars sometimes if you forget to roll up your windows during late evenings. Dengue is especially rife here. :(

ha.

Glad you made it too! Also, is it true that in four season countries, the insects only bug you during summer, and then pretty much vanish for the rest of the year? :o

Guess who got a tank upgrade today? Not a very big one - just a 5G cube converted into a paludarium of sorts. I'd totally do real plants except a few LFS workers put me off it today, so I decided to throw in a fake crawler first and see Loki's reaction to it.

Oh, and don't worry, he has a basking spot, driftwood to climb over and a sand mound built on pebbles to perch on. For some reason, he favors the water more although he's an alleged riverbank species.

I hope you heal all on your own without any of those things. Will mollies eat mosquito larvae? If not find some mosquito fish.

I hope so too. The entire healing process will take several years as opposed to several months, depending on the size of the lesion and how deep the scarring is. Anything involving brain tissue does take a while to heal.

I found a few baby red mollies or rather tiny red platys. They're the round, pot-bellied version and so far are excellent scavengers. They also know no apparent fear since they seem to enjoy swimming around my crab's claws and legs.

We only have mosquitoes them in summer. I am not a huge fan of winter though but spring and fall are relatively bug free :happydance:
