Ok, I'm in! Was going to do cichlids after being out of saltwater for 15 years or so. Decided couldn't FW so fowlr and maybe some zoas/polyps eventually in this 40B in entry way. 

 

Any good rexommensatins on a led strip light until I build canopy? Within a year? Orbit marine, finnex fugeray marine 2  or others? Will post specs once all setup.

It has been a while since anybody added to this thread, so I will throw my young tank in the mix.

 

Setup in May 2018

 

Display Tank: 40G Breeder.
Display Lighting: 2 x AI Hydra 26 HD
Stand: 36" shelving unit from Lowes
Sump: DIY 20L with skimmer, fuge, and return pump sections
Total System volume: ~50g
Overflow: Eshopps Eclipse medium w/ herbie
System Water: 0 TDS RODI water (I make at home)

Salt: Reef Crystals (switching next time I run out)
Display Water circulation: 2 x RFG nozzles and 2 x Jebao OW-10 wavemakers
Controller: N/A
Return Pump: Jebao DCP-8000 (running @ 14 watts)
Heater: 2 x 150W (can't remember brand)

Skimmer: Bubble Magus NAC 3.5
Evaporation Top Up Unit: Autotopoff.com dual switch unit w/10g reservoir
Testing: API right now, but getting REAL test kits soon, Refractometer, digital pH meter

Chemical Support: N/A

Nutrient Export: Skimmer, Filter socks, weekly 10% water changes

 

Nitrate: undetectable

Phosphate: undetectable

Calcium: 460

Alk: 7.5

Mag: unknown

SG: 1.026 (35ppt)

Temp: 78.5

pH: 8.3

Sump: 20G Long, divided into three chambers.

 

Lighting: 4 bulb, 36 inch, T-5 fixture.  

Back to front bulbs are....

ATI Blue Plus

ATI Aquablue Special

ATI True Actinic

ATI Purple Plus

 

Rock: About 60 pounds total.  About 30 of "Natures Ocean" and about 30 of really old BRS rock.  

 

Sand: 30 pounds total.  20 pounds of Carib Sea Arag-Alive Special Grade Reef Sand, and 10 pounds of Nature's Ocean No.0 Bio-Activ Live Aragonite Live Sand.

 

Corals:  None yet.

Fish: None yet.

Inverts: None yet.

Glad to see the 40B thread revived. 

 

BTW, your photos make your "young tank" look like its 1976 and you're using a Polaroid.  😂

Display Tank: 40G Breeder.
Display Lighting: Current: Nanobox T5 retrofit, prior was a NanoBox quad plus BuildMyLed strips
Stand: Some cheap Petsmart stand
Sump: Small HOB sump, only used for dosing and running carbon when needed.
Total System volume is approx 46G
Overflow: N/A
Refugium Lighting: N/A.
System Water: RO/DI
Display Water circulation: Vortech MP10, 
Controller: Neptune Systems Full Apex (shared with my 150 gallon).
Return Pump: N/A
Skimmer: AquaC Remora
Evaporation Top Up Unit: Timed topoff via Apex
Chemical Support: Occasional use of PhosphateRx.  BRS 2 part dosing plus Kalk in topoff

The sad part is I took those with my Samsung Note 8. I just can't get good pics with it.
