MFChop
So I got a great deal on a frag at the LFS but when I got it home I realized there was a clam attached to it. So what is it? Link to comment
patback
Everybody is probably disappointed that you are not giving away a free clam :/. +1 what they said. Link to comment
keydiver
I'm pretty sure it's a spiny oyster. Link to comment
metrokat
I'm with key diver: spiny oyster Although in this picture, it looks like a mussel, can you see "eyes" ?? if so it could be a scallop. Link to comment

metrokat
Kat, what do you mean by eyes? Some mollusks like scallops have eyes, one way to identify them. Many bivalves have no eyes, but a few members of Arcoidea, Limopsoidea, Mytiloidea, Anomioidea, Ostreoidea, and Limoidea have simple eyes on the margin of the mantle. These consist of a pit of photo-sensory cells and a lens.[25] Scallops have more complex eyes with a lens, a two-layered retina and a concave mirror.[26] All bivalves have light-sensitive cells that can detect a shadow falling over the animal.[20] Here's my unknown mollusk, I think it's a scallop but I can't see any eyes (it's smaller than a dime this thing) so it might be a mussel. Psychosis
...does any one else want a scallop with eyes like that, or is it just me? So weird...<3 Link to comment
metrokat
they're tiny, see the guys fingers in comparison. also, if mine is a scallop, those fuzzy things you see on the opening might be eyes too. Link to comment
patback
Interesting, thanks kat. I never knew they could see in any sense of the word. Link to comment
