Anyone recommend a setup for a 20L

I wanna run a DIM4 though so Im not sure how I could do it

Im thinking

2x OCW

2x True Violet 390-430nm

4x NW XLM 5000k

4x Royal Blue 455nm

4x Cool Blue 470nm

3x RB for Moon

Blues on Channel 1

Whites on Channel 2

TV & OCW on Channel 3

Moon on Channel 4

Opinions?

You're wanting to put 4x XM-L alongside 4x royal blue and 4x cool blue? That would look horrendous unless you dim the cool blue wayyyyy down. The OCW includes a cool blue LED. It is all that you will need.

I would suggest (in two pods over the tank):

6x 3-up star NW:RB:RB

2x OCW

4x violet

For moonlights, I would not use high-powered LEDs, they are very bright, even at the smallest amperage you can throw at them. Blue lights also aren't the best color, blue is a lot brighter to fish than it is to us. I'd grab a small waterproof white strip from ebay and call it done. :)

is this good to cover 24" X 24" ?

osama, what leds are in your sketch? i'm new and have an idea but want to be sure. i ordered 3, 12" makers heatsinks and they just shipped today. i'm very excited. this is my first diy in the hobby. and do you have a build thread.

secondly, is there a electrical engineering book for dummies? i know i won't become one overnight but didn't know if there was some guide for these kind of projects. the info i've learned here so far has been awesome.

What would be the best way to drive them using a DIM4?

Milad wanna chime in lol

The drivers themselves are dimmable via potentiometer. The DIM4 is a sunrise/sunset controller that will dim the drivers automatically.

Yeah I know Ive been using a DIM4 on my edge, I meant wiring an what drivers

hey jedi and anyone else, how many deep reds you think will work best and led ratio on driver B?

i don't want the DR to over power any other colors to the eye or future corals/fish.

CREE XP-G Neutral White LED 3,700-5,000K 1500ma [4]

CREE XP-G R5 Cool White LED 5000-8,300K 1500ma [6]

Driver B [700mA limit]

Violet UV 3W LED 410-420nm 700ma [3]

CREE XT-E Royal Blue LED 450-465nm 1500ma [4]

CREE XP-E Blue 3W LED 465-485nm 1000ma [4]

Philips Rebel Cyan 3W LED 490-520nm 1000ma [3]

40w for the royal blues

25w for the neutral whites

OCW and TV can be put all on one 40w with a pot.

Looks ok except for the cool white. I wouldn't use them in the build. Just stick to neutrals.

For the deep red, you can match the Blue count (4) if you wanted or half that.

If you wanted to keep it simple, loose the CW, Cyan, Blue and Deep red and just put in OCWs (4-6 of them)

Without writing it all out, neutrals give significantly better coloration. Do a search for it and you shall see. :)

(sorry, am in a hurry to get somewhere, so just a quick reply :) ).

I just read all 21 pages, Woah! Sweet photos people..

I now wanna build too.

Hows this?

----

These colors would go outside the center of all leds.

2)Royal Blue (455nm)

1) White (4500k)

2)True Violet (420nm)

1)Magenta (445nm)

Colors below are in center

1) Royal Blue (455nm)

1)Turqoise (495nm)

1) Deep Red (660nm)

If I replace 445nm with RB. that should look better? Like a darker version of 1400k

Magenta is not 445nm. 445nm is true royal blue. Magenta is an LED with two peaks - one at ~455 and one at ~600, if I remember what Milad said. Completely unnecessary.

What size tank and what brand of LEDs?

1400K would be almost all yellow lol ;)

I figure you mean 14000K. Answer the questions above and I'll let you know what you need for 14000K and full-spectrum.

To start its for a 3G pico. Im also planning 30x15x15 set up. its half complete.

So if the color on the pico looks nice. Ill build a larger led set up.

the pattern for leds Id like it to be 3 diamond shapes, meeting in the center. closely packed. only got so much room over pico.

The brand of led, not tottal sure yet. maybe cree or epistar or group led buy brands.

Yes I did mean 14000k. Dont want yellow at all. just a good full spec blend that can make corals look eletric bright colors while leave the waters color slightly dark blue. I like blue alot. but no need for super blue. if that makes sence.

Thanks for replying to me questions everone. :)

14000K is pretty whitish, probably not as much blue as you want. You're looking into a more 16-18000K to get the blue tint in the water

For the 3g, I would do the following:

CREE:

2x 3-up stars, (NW:RB:RB) (from LEDGroupBuy)

2x RB XT-E (from LEDGroupBuy)

1x Ocean Coral White (from LEDGroupBuy)

2x violet (from LEDGroupBuy)

Rebel:

2x NW Rebel ES (from Steve's LEDs)

6x RB Rebel ES (from Steve's LEDs)

1x Ocean Coral White (non-Rebel, from LEDGroupBuy)

2x violet (non-Rebel, from LEDGroupBuy)

For the 30x15x15:

Cree:

8x 3-up stars (NW:RB:RB) (from LEDGroupBuy)

8x RB XT-E (from LEDGroupBuy)

3-4x Ocean Coral White (from LEDGroupBuy)

4-6x violet (from LEDGroupBuy)

Rebel:

8x NW Rebel ES (from Steve's LEDs)

24x RB Rebel ES (from Steve's LEDs)

3-4x Ocean Coral White (non-Rebel, from LEDGroupBuy)

4-6x violet (non-Rebel, from LEDGroupBuy)

I kmow right. Freaking amazing colors. I pm her and shes using MH 250w radium + T8 sylvania coralstar 18w as a supplement. to produce that look. Now how the heck do we get leds to match this?

If thats under a MH then that must be a post processed photo

T5s can make that happen but thats a lot of color for just MH.

To get equivalent with LEDs you will need to do a full spectrum with something like

6:6:3:1 of Royal Blue : True Violet : Neutral White : OCW

This gives you the oranges, the reds, the greens the light greens and the light blues to pop.

250w radium + T8 sylvania coralstar 18w I guess is whats being used.

So your ratio you posted of colors will get me close to this colors?

how many if each do u think I can use if ive only got 9 dioeds to work with? my pico is a 9" cube. but this will become a larger upgrade later.

Thank you for helping me out with tuis everyone.
