Hey man on ur LED fixture what did u use as a cover like glass or plexiglass? and if plexi have u ran it for awhile to see if the heat will mess with the plexi?

Its 3mm acrylic. I haven't run it for long but there shouldn't be much heat build up in that direction as the heatsinks will absorb most of it.

I know what you are all thinking............................ "this guy is seriously quick at getting things done"! :haha:

To be fair I've had some pretty bad luck with the pumps but at last I think I'm almost there. The pumps are brand new and surprisingly loud (viabration noise) so I'm hoping they will bed in and be silent after a while. If not the Mrs will not be happy!

Some boring photos to prove its wet:

I might do a video of the pumps running once the tank is full.

Awesome! What will you use to cover up the piping?

When finished the tank will have a frame over it. You can see the design in some of the earlier posts. The locline inside the tank will be hidden with live rock.

Probably the slowest build in history but I'm one step closer!

The making of my media reactors.......

I used sketchup to do the initial designs and also to help get the dimensions perfect for the cnc router. I wanted all the pieces to be accurate to within 0.1mm tolerances, especially the holes and slots. Once happy with the design I re-drew the pieces into 2d CAD and exported them into the machining files.

These are a few snapshots of the sketchup model

Nylon bolts to clamp the seal tight.....

Time for assembly. You can see the slot in the lid for the o-ring seal. The o-ring has a cross sectional area of 3mm so the slot is exactly 3mm wide so the seal fits really tightly. Obviously essential so that no water can leak out under pressure. The seal was coated with silicone grease to keep it from going brittle.

Final thing were the discs to keep the sponge pads in place. These things took a full day to machine :(

All done and water tight :) just need to find some decent sponge pads now.

Slow.... Yes, but amazing craftsmanship my friend! Great job with your new media reactor! Can't wait to see more to come!

Cheers mate. Going to make a big effort to get it done. I lost £1000's worth of stunning corals that I was stocking this with which put me off finishing it. Beginning to get the desire back :)
