You should talk to n0rk, he's another Aussie Reefer on this site.

Course who knows, he might be on the other side of the country from you, but he might still have some good suggestions of good online places for you to order from.

He's also managed to get Nano sized LED lights from somewhere or other, which is something you expressed an interest in.

Awwww, it's nice to be thought of Weets :flower:

Not sure where he's from, he hasn't put it in his profile. He's running DIY LED's which are a bit beyond me, correction would cause the college to freak to high heaven if I built an LED fixture.

I'm up in Brisbane. Though, I know just about every supplier in the country so you're in good hands...

For corals like you're looking for, http://www.coralcrazy.com.au/ http://www.ausfrags.com.au/ http://www.aussieaquariumcorals.com.au/ http://www.coralmania.com.au/ http://aquariumfanatics.com.au/store/ http://www.fullscale.com.au/ http://www.mattrichards.id.au/ http://www.oceanarium.com.au/ http://www.reefsecretsaquariums.com/

For lights, seeings LEDs seem to be the go, BSled should have a unit of roughly the right size for your tank. Send an email to beatrice@bsled.com and she should see you in good hands. Failing that there's not really many options other than DIY for a 1' tank we can get. Not really any other options except PC, and even then it's slim pickings. http://www.guppysaquariumproducts.com.au/f...t/prod_134.html is about the only one I know of that'd even remotely fit. Dunno how Andries' shipping would be to you though...

Oh, and if you're interested in some kind of filter, http://www.psifilters.com.au/buy-online/de...sis-system.html would work if you've got any sort of tap near the room... if you're a MASA member Peter usually does like 30% off his stock...

Feel free to send me a PM either here or over on RTAW, I'm usually pretty quick to respond :)

Coraline Kati- Most unis don't have dorms, it's just not a big thing here. I'm at the only uni in the country that is part of a university town so we have seven colleges housing 2000 people because there's not enough housing in town. However we don't share our rooms, we each have our own room.

n0rk- thanks for the list of sites, I just wish I could order corals, Armidale's not in the next business day delivery network "cries".

Most of my supplies so far ahve come from Ben at AOA (dear god do I love that store) and the lighting and this next order are coming from Andries at guppies, but the postage is uhh spectacular. I can't afford LED's, I'm just still patiently waiting for the price to drop. I can't get an RO/DI filter either because of college life... But yes I am a MASAOG member...

And now I'm gonna go look at all those stores... wow am I hopeless LOL

Actually though my university is in the next business day delivery network for Sydney... Though that's another thing I'm sure the college wouldn't appreciate LOL, I may talk to Tony (our admin and foster dad of us all LOL) and see if I could... The airport is close as well...

In that case, Ausfrags is probably your best bet. They're based on the west of Sydney so you can usually get stuff anywhere on the east coast :) sucks my old PC fixture doesn't work anymore, it's perfect size and I'm pretty sure I'll never have a use for it again... the joys of having upgraded countless times to stupidly expensive stuff  that RO filter isn't a permanent one, it just saddles over the outlet of a faucet, but I understand the price thing, I've just spent $3,5k on a tank that doesn't even exist yet with mythical funds...

Dunno of many reefers around you, but I know there is a few down that way. Might be a worthwhile venture to search user location over on RTAW and get in contact with some of them, I'm sure they'll be able to help you more directly being that I'm soiled by being in the big smoke..! But while I think of it, if you ever need high-end gear cheaper than domestic, http://sewatec.de is a goer - I'm about to get about a grand of pumps that would've been $3k+ here. Postage is pretty good too...

 why do I use forums while still asleep...

I'm wondering the same thing. This early wake up thing should make me study... in theory and instead I head straight for the reef forums LOL.

With an RO unit I'd have to stand next to it the entire time it's working as the college has the fairly simple rule, if you leave it outside of your room and your not there it goes in the bin.

As far as I know there's only one person near me in Tamworth and they haven't posted on RTAW in a long while...

However foodling around the stores has shown me one thing. I have found a store that sells base rock by the kg. Because for some unknown reason there is a complete lack of base rock up here, and I cant say I'm impressed with the live rock here's how the last conversation went...

Is this rock aqua cultured?

It's from the ocean

Has it been cured

It's from the ocean

How long ago was it collected

It came out of the ocean

Where was it collected?

The ocean...

I gave up after that, I know its from the ocean, but seriously.I cant say I'm fond of the quality so I may order 3-4 kg of rock from this store and see if I get a piece that works. And then just fill the AC with LR rubble

Though there's also a good chance that I will go the pet store on Saturday (have to get my car serviced, guess what store is next door? LOL) and come home with a box of salt, a heater and a chunk of LR since the salt and heaters are still at my parents house. But you know I'm just hopeless like that LOL.

Just put my order through, um yeah, not sure if I'm fond of the new checkout system they have, me thinks I will be double checking my account balance a few times... Though one of the advantages of being a student, I have nothing to steal and can't go into debt... LOL

Anyway I ordered

The light system

Kent Marine Nano Reef Parts A+ B

Salifert Calcium Test Kit

Salifert Magnesium Test Kit

Salifert Phosphate Test Kit

Salifert Alkalinity Test Kit

Salifert Nitrite Test Kit

Salifert Silicate Test Kit

It came to $202.50. The other order I did was $180 and I've also spent $30 at Woolworth on various supplies. And for those wondering how I can afford this, I've been eating home brand everything for weeks, mmm gotta love that processed filler LOL.

Can't help ya on that. I use Microsoft Office for Mac on my MacBook.

Looks like you got all the test kits you will need for awhile. What's next to order?

The next purchase which will most likely be Saturday is Liverock, 1kg of salt and a small heater so I can start curing and get rid of some of the gunk before the tank arrives.

After that it's just wouldn't it be cool if I had... LOL So therefore I want

Kent Marine Tech M

Salifert Strontium Test Kit

Salifert Organics Test Kit

Salifert Nitrate Test Kit

Salifert Ammonia Test Kit

Salifert pH Test Kit

Salifert Iodine Test Kits

Electronic Thermometer

But you know mainly the entire range of Salifert Kits except for the copper one LOL, and yes I was a chemistry kid. Then in the very very far off future I'd love to get some of the Hanna Checkers but they are way way out of my price range.

I dont think you need a heater. whats the lowest temp your ambient air gets? I would also skip the iodine and ammonia test. Organics, stromtium and tech M as well. You're a chick, flirt with a guy and have him haul 5g of water for you. Then after that, its maybe like 1g every week or two, perfectly doable. Get a refractometer as well

The lowest Temperature uhhh that would be -10 degrees celsius that would be 14 degrees fahrenheit, jugs of water freeze solid if left near the window. Yeah I need a heater. The test kits are not because I need them but because I like fiddling about with water parameters... Yes I do own a refractometer and no I'm not going to flirt with a guy simply so I can get better water up to my room. Plus there's the slight problem of my living in a girls only block, aka no guys allowed inside... I'm just going to stick with tapwater...

Link to comment

man I thought OZ was supposed to be hot. I would really recommend you not fiddle with the water parameters, thats the most counter productive thing you can do. This is coming from a major science geek, albeit a highly attractive one.

flirt with a lesbian =)

LOl Aus is hot but it IS the middle of winter and I live at a 1000m elevation up on the tablelands... I doubt I'd actually dose a lot of things, but it is interesting to map the changing parameters... I may not get some but I do find them interesting...

Maybe... Though as to ammonia I discovered the hard way it's kinda helpful to have a test on hand. I had a really bad tank crash and having the kit on hand meant I could check when all the levels had returned to safe limits...

Link to comment

I'd have to agree with super nip

If your looking to have the setup be less expensive most of those test can be put on hold. Only test for things that will crash you tank or you plan on dosing. Calc, alk, nitrate, maybe ph. Most any thing else will stabilize with a 1 liter water change.

Not sure but did you say pc for lighting.

If you haven't ordered art least take a look at evils par 38. Would be plenty for this tank. Replacement blub cost alone would pay for it.

Oh & its great to have people on here when I'm up. :)

Most of those test kits listed aren't going to be bought for a long while. Calcium, Alkalinity and Magnesium are because I know for a fact the salt I use is low in calcium and magnesium. Nitrite because Mum emailed to tell me she dropped the reagent bottle and it wont be of any use now. Then phosphate and silicate because I want to know exactly how bad the tap water here is. But yeah the second list is the things I want but don't actually need... And I'll use an older API set to make sure the tank travels through its cycle...

Evil's PAR is something I've only ever heard of except on here, it's definitely not sold in good old Aus so PC it is. I ordered the fixture this morning and if I ever get to leave college I'll upgrade to an MH. Though I have four more years of uni after this so that may be a long while.

Link to comment

4 years from now they may have done away with mh. :o

I'm surprised that there's nothing out of Japan as far as leds go for your market. Well that or china. Pc can be used with far more affect than most will give it credit but the par values that are possible with the leds vs pc is why I brought it up. Actualy my lfs sells evils par 38. This why I'm thinking led is replacing the other bulbs.

Believe it or not I did clams under pc for a while so not the worst lighting you could have. Its just that bukb life is short.

Yeah LED's have certainly made it this far but the price is still very high, I'm working on the assumption that in a few years time the LED's will either have dropped in price or there will be some amazing new invention or a reinvention of MH's that's at a more affordable price. For now I'll probably just be keeping softies. There is a gorgeous favia coral in my tank at home that I wouldn't mind a frag of but the chances of my mother not noticing me cutting a chunk off of her favorite coral are very very low LOL. I'm hoping by the time I visit them again my fluffy morph will have split (it has an eight inch diameter and it climbed the rocks to sit directly below a 150w MH, but it. just. won't. split!) and I should be able to take a couple of the purple morphs without my mother noticing... LOL

you seem like you have a firm grip of whats going on so good luck AP. Try to see if nanocustoms will sell you those PC-R bulbs, might be able to force more light out of your current situation with just a bulb change

So I won't actually be getting LR on Saturday, instead I'll wait till Tuesday week. Mainly because the car service people misquoted the price, and since my car must be serviced on Saturday it becomes a choice between live rock and food... But hey it means I shall have more money to spend on LR when I do get around to buying it...
