mmm...

still thinking that an aquac ev240 with the iwaki 40 or a precision marine bullet 2 would be worth thinking about since it would save you a couple hundred. of coarse I'm cheap.

if your waiting till jan anyway maybe AM will have his up so we can have a good review.

Bitts, will hopefully have the set up in full cycle by the new year so it may come sooner.

Why the 240 over 400? Me and Oc don't have that big of a stocking difference.

well mostly money but the issues you had with fitting it in the stand come to mind. if he could be talked into the 400 or some thing similar then well absolutely. while the cone is a great design, I like the added tuning that comes from a downdraft/recirculating based skimmer. then with the greatest height possible.to maximize dwell time. I've found info clamming some proteins to take over a min to stick to the bubbles.

Well, it's been awhile. Everything going great, but I figured out, I just can't get that skimmer. I need something cheaper. Ev400 probably. The 240 won't fit in this stand anyway.

now as to why I keep harping on the down draft based designs.

while they require more power they produce significantly more air. with a smaller sized bubble. than comparably priced alternatives.the reason I'm saying to give the ev's a try is that they seem to be the best bang for the buck in this style. sure there are better skimmers but when picking one it comes down to which trade offs are you willing to make. if I where buying one for the upcoming 75 it would probably be the 400, if I were biulding one. it would probably be a recirculating, counter current, beckett nozzel downdraft 3 foot monster.

nork's got a pretty good write up on his bubble king to take a look at.

Thanks everyone. As you may tell, school has been sucking the life out of me and haven't had a ton of time for nr. So, heres a major update.

Current stocking-

Royal gramma

Mr. Mac

scopas tang

yellowtail blue damsel

domino damsel

sixline wrasse

copperband b-fly

yellowhead jaw (haven't seen him since I added him)

ocellaris clown

pair o' firefish

The general health of the tank is great. No pests, no algae s invasion (besides coralline (I have a pink overflow box)), and even the RTN acro is getting back its color and polyps are extended. My goni frag is happy. Added a cbb today. Yesterday, added a domino damsel and sixline. The only weird thing is my maxima clam died. Ever since a snail shipment came in, he started declining and died. I checked for pyramids to no avail.

Sorry guys, been a while and finals have had me down. The tank is doing fair, not well. The cbb went missing, along with the damsel and sixline. Everyone else has been fine, and the acropora that had rtn'd is making a comeback of re-encrustation. No eta on a skimmer, but I'm going cheeap. Probably a Vertex 280. Hair algae has arrived on one rock, but has not spread at all.

Pics later today. Although, be warned, they won't be pretty. At least I'm out of debt. Those lights are paid off. *coughs*
