Wanted to start a thread dedicated to my 40 since my other thread is jumbled with a few different tanks. The tank is roughly 1.5 years old, and is finally starting to look decent. I've moved it, neglected it, blasted it with light, too much bio-pellets, and somehow it has survived (barely) for the most part. I have suffered some losses along the way, especially when I moved the tank from one room of my house to another. Anyway, here's where I'm at with the tank as of today. I'll try to eep this thread updated fairly regularly.

The tank is a 40 breeder, with a 40 breeder sump. It's lit by two 250w radiums housed in lumenarc mini's, fired by lumatek ballasts. Flow is provided by an mp10 on one side of the tank, and a mp20 on the other. I'm using a reef octo extreem 200 skimmer. I have a chamber in my sump for frags that is lit by a 150w phoenix 14k. The stand and canopy were built by yours truly, and apparently they look ok because my wife approves of them being in our living room, lol. Ca and alk (b-ionics) are dosed via a bubble magus doser. There are two 2 little fishies reactors, one for carbon and gfo and one for bp's.

The tank is 95% SPS with only a single LPS, and some clove polyps. I'll probably start adding
some zoas soon to use as "fillers". I've got about 12 fish including two tangs that have been in the tank since pretty much day one. Anyway, here are a few recent pics. I'll post some "progression" pics a little later tonight if anyone is interested.

I like it. Also, INB4TANGPOLICE!

Are the tang police still around? Seems like everybody has tangs in 40's these days.

Looks great. I love the rockwork.

Can we get a closer shot of the sump?

Thanks! I'll see about getting a couple of sump pics this evening.

Very nice setup Glenn. So many good looking 40 Breeders around. Its definitely what I will be building for my next tank. Just gotta find a rimless one.

Awesome tank, I love how clean and beautiful it is.

On a side note, 2 yellow tanks and a hippo tang? Aren't they a little crowded in a 40b?

Thanks for all of the compliments! I swear I will get some sump pics soon. I've just been really busy lately.

I'm not sure about the 2 yellow tang comment, I only have one. I do have a huge yellow coris wrasse, but I'm not sure if it could be mistaken or a tang. I've had bot the hippo and yellow tang for about a year and a half and the seem to be doing just fine.

My apologies, I skimmed over the picture and just saw two yellow fish and first one that caught my eye was the yellow tang.

Dang, well, I didn't think just 1 yellow and 1 hippo would be okay in a 40g breeder. You now have opened my eyes! I sure as heck might have to try it now! haha.

Honestly, if you can successfully keep one then I don't see why you couldn't keep the other. I've never noticed any aggression between them what so ever.

Here's a few from when I built the stand...

The entire front of the stand comes off for access to the sump. I counter-sank some high strength magnets to hold the front panel in place. It came out pretty good, and you can't even tell that the front comes off at all.

Forgot this one..

Very nice!

Wish I had thought to make the front come off too instead of just an end... <_<

It definitely makes everything under the tank very accessible. I forgot to mention, the reason I made the stand so big is because I plan to upgrade to a 125 at some point.

Nice build and well thought out. Nice to be ready for the next tank.

Should the upgrade never come to be- the 40 looks sweet on the stand as is.
