c est ma
Alright, Last pic update before I transfer the 20L over to the 40BR. Firstly I have taken all my overgrown zoa frag plugs that started as 1-3 polyps per plug, and moved them onto disks. I did this by cutting off the frag plug stem, and then gluing the stemless plug on to a disk. These disks are what I use as "mother colonies" as they make future fragging very easy! They don't look half bad either. My frag setup Those to be mounted This is what I mean by overgrown All finished 20L full of disks Lastly, My last FTS until my tank's aquascaping is all finished, and the corals have been introduced! The pics aren't the best, but I just used the auto settings because I was in a rush to get everything done I really enjoyed that set of pics. So much to look at! The fts is beautiful. --Diane Link to comment
TJ_Burton
I really enjoyed that set of pics. So much to look at! The fts is beautiful. --Diane Why thank you Diane Hopefully you like the new FTS Well I am happy to announce the transfer is complete!!! It isn't exactly how I envisioned it, however I am pleased with the results. I haven't placed all the corals in their final resting places just yet, since it took me much longer then expected to actually do the rockwork etc. So there will be changes made to coral placement, but at least you get a rough idea. I know I packed a lot of rock in the display, but there is actually a lot of caves and holes. I also allowed the rock to lean on the overflow panel a tad. This is because I can not really use a scraper on it without scratching the hell out of it, so this way the corals can grow in front of it and cover it up. I also packed the sump full of rock rubble. I still have a butt load of live rock left over that I am going to trade into my LFS for some new corals and such! Enjoy! (All comments and criticisms are very welcome) FTS Left Side Right Side Moonlight Shot Fuge And a little gem that I picked up. Can anyone tell me what this is Link to comment
SeeDemTails
Everything looks awesome TJ! Dont set out with anything besides a rough idea......or you will frustrate yourself to no end....I learned that a long time ago! It looks like it came out well to me, plus you can still move stuff around and figure out which rocks/corals will fit where. How old is that tank again? Link to comment
TJ_Burton
Well, 23 Days was the cycle on this big guy. Actually it was about a week less then that, but I allowed it an extra 7 days to be safe. Kind of full no? Can you believe I had all those corals JAMMED into a 20L? Link to comment
sammy113
Tank is looking good TJ. You got a lot of frags to play around moving them. Hey you and me git the same frag station! Link to comment

c est ma
Wow! (And whew! I can sure see why that must have taken hours!) Very nice!! Really shows how big some of your specimens are, esp. that green cap & the Platygyra. (Which both, BTW, look super in the moonlight shot, too!) And I love that fuge! I'm not the best at coral ID, but that pretty, new little guy looks like it could maybe be a Cespitularia? Great job! --Diane Link to comment
land_lubber
Nice looking tank dude. Can we get a close up shot of that brain? Link to comment
TJ_Burton
WOW! Looks GREAT TJ! Nice work bro! DAAAAAMN that tank already looks sweet!!! Excellent work. Thanks guys! I still think it needs a ton of work... but I doubt I will ever be completely satisfied. Nice Love the tutorials! Phew! I am glad you liked them! I was afraid to step on toes with that one. Looking good, TJ! Thanks much! Nice looking tank dude. Can we get a close up shot of that brain? I actually have a couple shots of it pretty close up. This is it: I can take another one if you like. It is an Australia Maze Brain. Very nice coral IMO. I love brain corals, especially the maze and dome moon brains, so expect to see a couple more pop up in my tank once it looks a little more organized. Wow! (And whew! I can sure see why that must have taken hours!) Very nice!! Really shows how big some of your specimens are, esp. that green cap & the Platygyra. Great job! --Diane Thank you very much for the kind words Diane Your ID is pretty much spot on. Most people guess Xenia, which is somewhat correct since it is in the Xeniid family. However there is an ongoing debate right now; the ID of my coral may turn out in fact, to be Efflatounaria rather then Giant Purple Cespitularia. Link to comment
TJ_Burton
Just for fun, I figured I would show the progression of my 40g to this point. Gotta love that crazy algae bloom I got during my two week cycle That was the most painless cycle I have ever been through. The diatoms only lasted a few days. Link to comment

TJ_Burton
Looking good TJ, keep up the good work. I will try A Mod of few words are ya? That's ok, I don't mind the friendly smiley! lol Thanks for the shots of the brain, I've never seen one that colour before. No problem! I hadn't seen one like that before either, it was an impulsive buy I must say. It cost me a little over $100 from a LFS I go to regularly. I normally would never spend that kind of coin on coral, but I must admit, I am a sucker for a nice brain. Link to comment

I may consider it one day, however you would have a hell of a time getting them from me unless you frequent Ontario Canada. Also, taking it over the border could be a problem. Link to comment

TJ_Burton
This is easily fixed. No lasting harm done, i'm sure. Well it should be. I think there are a few factors at play here. One being the stress of the transfer, the other being the 20,000K bulbs I had in there were used for who knows how long. One burnt out the day I did the transfer, so in all those pics only the left 250w 20,000K and the center 10,000K were running. I just purchased new 20,000K bulbs, unfortunately they are Coralife 20,000k bulbs, but they were very cheap and should certainly do the trick for now. I also changed out the Coralife 10,000K 150w DE bulb with one that a friend brought back from China for me. I can't recall the name, but hopefully it is a little more white then the Coralife was. I will get the name of it for when I post pics tonight of the lights. I was having some issues with those crazy industrial fans I installed. First issue was that the transformer could only run one fan, and would cut out after about 30 seconds if both fans were wired up. So for a while I was only running one. The other issue is that the fan sounded like a leaf blower. My simple solution was to go to Walmart and buy two six inch clip on fans and put them inside the canopy and have them blow across the water. This worked remarkably well. In fact, it dropped the tank from 82 to 78. The aluminum reflector right above the bulb was actually cool to the touch. As you can see from the pic I actually did this mod before the transfer. However I completely forgot to post about it. Link to comment
