I'm guessing your doing it in light of the contest? here is what I do to my pics to make em better, FWIW, in photoshop, you resize the canvas size, add a few inches of black, so you get a frame, and if you want to cheat(well it's not exactly...) adjust the levels of brightness/contrast to really make it pop!
