dropped
Picked this tank up for pretty darn cheap ($350 NZD / $212 USD), considering it comes with lights, skimmer, return pump, light timer and two rw4 power heads it was hard to say no too. Ended up using two little fishies, littlefeet flats to build the rock scape, the intention is to only have SPS coral with no sand so i can have decent amount of flow. Equipment: Red Sea Max 130d Setup Costs 1 x Two Little Fishies AquaStik Stone Grey - 114g $21.65 $21.65 3 x Two Little Fishies LittleFeet Flat Limestone Rock 2kg $20.78 $62.35 1 x Instant Ocean Sea Salt 6.8kg 189 Litre $39.04 $39.0 1 x TLF CorAffix Gel 20g Cyanoacrylate Adhesive. $12.96 $12.96 1 x Red Sea MAX 130d. $350. $350 Total. $295 USD $485.97 NZD Inhabitants: Nothing yet. Currently the tank is relegated to the garage as the office has a second desk in it for my partner so she can work from home during the new zealand lock down. 3rd May 2020, scaped and filled with salt water. 3 1 Quote Link to comment
ramesis
Wow.. your use of the flat rocks is very cool. Lots of levels for different corals with different light needs. 1 Quote Link to comment

teenyreef
I like the flat rock scape. It looks a little artificial right now but when stuff starts to encrust it's going to look super nice. 1 Quote Link to comment

Thanks mate! Wee update, was having trouble getting the water clear, considering the tank had only been up for a few days it seemed like there was a bacteria bloom and the water was pretty cloudy. Figured this couldn't be right, had nothing to loose so turned the skimmer on, which proceeded to pull out lime dust from the rock, which is strange as i rinsed all of the rock a few times. the water cleared up, yay, but became cloudy again after a few days, the skimmer didnt clear that up so... guessing it was a bacteria bloom for real this time, after all there was a table shrimp in there to cycle the tank. Pulled out the shrimp today (day 6) and tested the ammonia levels which came out at 0.5mg. I thought i could leave it for a month without getting impatient and testing... turns out i couldn't haha. i will phantom feed the tank every few days now to keep the cycle going. A local reefer who i know, is good at breeding bangai has kindly sold me one, so this will be the first fish to enter the tank in a couple of weeks. Most likely a pair of platinum clown fish will follow the bangai, if i can find some. 2 Quote Link to comment
dropped
Starting to add a few corals, first up was this goniopora, got this from a local shop, first one ive ever had... most likely not the best tester coral haha. Also ordered a XR15 Gen 5 Blue, although its stuck somewhere between New Zealand and Australia, so will hopefully turn up soon.... So far 7 weeks in, ive got no algae issues at all........ Have also added two fish about 2 weeks apart from the same breeder here in NZ. The small bangaii's body is thumbnail size for reference super tiny! 1 Quote Link to comment
dropped
Lighting update: My new G5 Blue XR15 arrived this week and has now left the building (sold). Was tossing up on getting the XR30 pro rather than the blue this time. But for now the tank sits under a hydra 26HD, and im pretty happy with how it looks using the BRS settings. Coral Update: Couple of new corals in QT First up an Elegance coral, never had one of these before, thought id try it. And a sun coral, have been slowly teaching it to come out during the day, looking good so far! Tank Update: Top down view on the tank, diatoms have been and gone, and in a few places i think some cyano is starting to pop up, so we will see how that develops over the coming week. Also added sand, its a been a while since ive had sand haha. Also have a break out of pods... well i hope they are pods. They are all over the tank hundreds and hundreds of them. Fish update: Ive had to move the little bangaii out of the tank as he is a boy as well... they were not getting on too well. 1 Quote Link to comment
dropped
Growth has been good, im happy with this seen as the tank was started with dry rock three months ago. The hood already had a hole in it, so i gutted it and installed two hydra 26 HDs and the spread in the tank is awesome!! And Dino and Cyano came for a visit..... Red slime remover got rid of the Dino and Cyano. 1 Quote Link to comment
dropped
Seems I no longer have and LPS in this tank, so going solely SPS, we will see how long this lasts..... Seen as this tank is about 8-10 years old, of course the Skimmer motor stopped working and finding a replacement is not currently possible. this mean.... im no longer running a skimmer. I have also added four Mollies 3 three females and 1 male. With all of that in mind.... i still have no detectable nitrates or phosphates, i have dropped water changes to once a month and have increased feedings. If i still have no phosphates and nitrates, im going to start dosing both nitrates and phosphates in the next few weeks. 1 Quote Link to comment
