The inspector didn't catch it and we didn't notice anything with the ceiling. Now you can notice that the people that sold the house spackled around a light fixture and there is a slight different color than the paint. Hopefully the warranty or the house insurance pays for this because it's obvious that it was there before we bought the house. F$!?@. Link to comment

Our home warranty covered the plumber and the insurance eventually covered the rest. Dealing with the insurance company was a nightmare. They wanted to lowball us. $13k worth of damage and they wanted to give us $3k depreciation or some shit. A nicely written letter from a lawyer my stepdad knew put an end to that bullshit. The day after we sent the letter, 8am fedex delivered a check for $13k plus another $1500 for hotel expenses. Make sure you get good estimates. And dont let the insurance company screw you. This isn't his specialty but he's scared people into doing the right thing in the past. Yeah, there is no way we could afford to fix this on our own. Update: the losers who remodeled the bathroom put in a cheap showed and the plumber said whoever did it didn't connect the drain to the pipe! There's a depression in the shower and now that has to be replaced too. We also have a spa bath that the inspector had said to have the electrical tested before turning it on.
