Jaime's IM Nuvo 10--Gobies and Gorgs

12-26-14 Decided to downsize from the PicO to an IM Nuvo Fusion 10G. This is purely from a convenience/setup thing on my end, not due to the build quality of the PicO--it's a beautiful tank and Chris from PicO Aquariums is wonderful to work with. I'll leave the initial specs/stats/pics up in this thread and add a list of the new tank stats later.

Current FTS: 4-4-2015

FTS204-4.jpg

Tank Details: Updated Dec 2014

PicO 20G AIO Innovative Marine Nuvo Fusion Nano 10G

Stock pump with Spinstream nozzle

Vortech MP-10w

Cobalt Neo-therm 75watt

Nano Box Mini Tide

~10-12lbs live rock, some was dry rock that I cycled from Reefcleaners

A small grain version of one of the aragonite sands by Caribsea

Fish:

Citron Clown Goby- Gobiodon citrinis

Red Neon Eviota Goby x3- Eviota nigriventris (in QT)

Green Banded Goby x2- Elacatinus multifasciatum (in QT)

ORA Sharknose Goby- Elactinus evelynae

Inverts, Corals:

Banded Trochus snails

Florida Cerith snails

Blue-legged hermit crab

Pagoda Cup Coral- Turbinaria peltata

Blastomussa- B. merletti and B. wellsi

Micromussa sp.

Acanthastrea lordhowensis

Fungia sp. maybe fralinae?

Torch Coral, Indo Gold- Euphyllia glabrescens

Zoanthid sp.- Super Saiyans, Radioactive (Dragon eye?)

Palythoa sp.- Sunny Ds

Scolymia australis- "Mini" West Australian scoly

Dendrophyllia

Hazel Eunice Eco-Gorg- Eunicea mammosa (guessing--it was a freebie)

Tracy Morgonian gorgonian

So, I've had this tank running since I think sometime in October, but have been lazy about starting a new thread . Moved some corals and the left rock over from my 20 Fusion, had some hiccups along the way. This time around blastomussas seem to hate me and my water, or they're just more finicky than when I was keeping them in the hobby two years ago. Had a two-spot bimaculatus blenny that was eating fine for about a month, month and a half, but it disappeared and I haven't found a body :(.

The Swissguard basslet was a surrpise--ordered a Swales basslet but it apparently was shipped out on the wrong order so the dealer offered to send me the Swissguard at the same price. I said yes :D. I've named him Clifford because he turned out to be way bigger and more red than I was expecting. Not shy at all, out all the time, and despite being like 3x the size of my CCG, not aggressive. He's an assertive eater, but doesn't appear to bully the CCG during feeding times.

Here's a blah pic that sort of shows the size difference

Fish12-2014.jpg

Clifford hardly stays still so it's hard to get a decent photo.

Basslett12-2014.jpg

Citron goby loves the cup coral, and so far it doesn't seem to mind. Haven't seen any nipping going on fingerscrossed

CCG12-2014.jpg

A few random shots of the tank:

The favia are back in my 20 Fusiion now

Urchin12-2014.jpg

Micromussa12-2014.jpg

Plate12-2014.jpg

Leftrock12-2014.jpg

Random12-2014.jpg

Not sure about the placement for the cynaria, but it was about half the size it currently is when I saw it at the LFS. It inflated a lot once it settled in . It doesn't lay completely flat very often because it gets the some flow coming off the right tall rock (guessing), but it doesn't seem to mind...and it opens up for eating. It shrinks quite a bit at night, but always opens back up once the lights come on.

Oh! Looks nice! Both your fish are super cute too!

Thanks! I almost went with a pair of clowns, since I like clowns, but I wanted something a little bit different this time around.

that plate looks hungry :P

Probably is :P the corals have to rustle for themselves most of the week for leftovers from when I feed the fish. Only target feed corals 1-2x a week.

Finally a thread omgomgomg. LOVE that basslet . What's his temperament like? Is he a hyper swimmer or pretty chill? Or somewhere in between?

Wishing you a wonderful holiday, Jaime...extra hugs for you this time of year :grouphug:.

Aww, thanks Gena! Happy holidays to you too (and all who stumble across this thread)! Should've probably mentioned that in my other thread too, eh? :grouphug: It's definitely an odd time of year to be merry-sad.

The basslet is pretty active, but he's not constantly zooming around either. But he doesn't just sit and park somewhere like the goby so pics aren't as easy. So far he's a model citizen and not a bully at all fingerscrossed That said, he has no qualms beating the goby to the food and stealing it right out from in front of his face, but I feed different size flakes and the goby goes after the little pieces. Clifford comes right up to the tweezers and will take mysis too. Nothing shy about him!

I'm so excited that the dealer screwed up and you got this basslet instead! I'm really looking forward to all the pictures of him :). That's so awesome that he's not shy!!!! The citron goby is adorable too .

Yea, best dealer screw-up ever

Tank news, I've actually decided to downsize from the PicO and go to an IM Fusion 10 instead so I can have more room on my desk, so Clifford will be moving into my Fusion 20. Of course, right as I start a thread it gets changed :P hoping to complete the tank changes this weekend.

So you are selling the PicO? I would love to see one of the Nuvo 10s in person! Actually any of the Nuvos! They are sooo popular :).

Oh...one of my blastos is gaping . What the heck LOL. They are trouble :D.

I can't wait to see how you set up the IM10! Looking forward to pics this weekend and I love the basslet - he's on my list of potential denizens for my IM10 :)

Welcome to the nuvo 10G club! These are nice tanks!

That they are. I'm not a fan of the mesh lids, but I just place a piece of acrylic over the top to try and cut down on some evap.

I'm not sure what I'm going to do with the PicO. I may just keep it an turn it into a FW tank upstairs :D It's such a hassle selling used fishkeeping stuff, especially tanks. The Nuvo 10 is definitely small though compared to the PicO  It's been crazy trying to find space for everyone, and I didn't think I had that much in the PicO!

Sucks about the blasto :furious: I'm worried mine might be goners after being put through a tank move, plus I plucked all of them off the rock they had been on and am going to redistribute later this weekend. I have several not-happy campers in the Nuvo 10 right now

Well, I completely failed at copying your scape  but I'm more or less happy with mine. It's sort of a mini version of what I had going in the PicO. The Swissguard is definitely eye-catching, not in a "oooh pretty" neon color way like my helfrichi was, but still distinctive. Plus, he's out all the time. My only caution would be that they're pretty big, and I'm not sure a 10g cube shape would be enough swimming space for one.

Got all the tank moving done :happydance: I hurt all over, flooded the bathroom (again), and only found out mid-move that I'm out of glue and putty :slap: . Oh well, everyone is in a tank, I was able to keep everyone in aerated, warm holding tanks this time, and the actual tank switcheroo didn't take all that long, so I'm hoping I don't have any losses.

This thing is tiny compared to the PicO! Having trouble finding space for everyone, plus almost nothing is glued down, so there are a lot of frags on the sandbed at the moment. Need to make a run to the LFS tomorrow & do my best not to come home with a dendro .

The Razor Nano doesn't fit very well over this tank--the tank mount partially covers the filter basket so I'd need to unscrew the light every time I wanted to take it out. No thanks! So, I'm thinking about springing for a Nanobox Tide since I have extra outlets on this Apex. The Nanobox uses 3 outlets right? Anyone care to weigh in on Nanobox lights?

Just the Citron Clown Goby in the tank now, so I'll probably get a new helfrichi and keep it in here since I loved my old one. No nems (guessing) to sting it in this tank!

Sounds like a fun weekend :)

I've been thinking about replacing that thick plastic mesh lid with tulle fabric. I'll let you know how it works.

After looking at the pic of your basslet I agree, looks like he'd be too big.

I've got the Nanobox Mini Tide on mine. Two outlets, one to power the light and one for the Storm controller. Works and fits great!

Pulled the trigger on a Mini Tide with the storm controller :D

I was trying to run the Sicce Syncra 1.0 in the back chamger but it's making a rather loud rattling/buzz noise so I'll either swap it out for the stock pump on the PicO or go back to the stock pump it came with. May need to run my Hydor Koralia Nano pump so the pagoda cup gets enough flow.

Soo excited to see the new digs :). Yeah, I don't know what's up with my blastos. It's a mini-mini colony and it's just one head from it that is bleaching and gaping. Oh well. You win some you lose some :).

Congrats on the light purchase!!!! Are you customizing the casing color or going stock?

Some quick, ugly pics :P I need to scrape the walls of both tanks. Ugh, that sucks about the blastos. My three-head red/green colony that was resilient through all the other random gaping episodes I had died on me one head at a time :( but in a different way: one head went really pale for weeks, then gaped-receded-died and the others followed suit. Hope this isn't what's happening to yours. Definitely a win some-lose some hobby <_<

It's a stock light- white body with green accents. Very excited for it. What settings are you running yours at? Do you have the Storm controller?

Ok, some pics. I couldn't use any of the larger return pumps (211gph) because they all made a rattling noise...but when I put my hand on them it still happened, so it must have been something internally? I cleaned the Sicce pump but that didn't make a difference, and the Rio+ 800 hadn't been used before, so I'm guessing they were just too big for that back compartment. Getting them in and out was a pain too , so for now I have the stock pump back in and a Koralia Nano. I have a spin stream on but the flow is coming out at snail speed, so I'm going to look into a slightly larger return pump. The stock pump says it's for the Nuvo 8 at a whopping 92gph :P.

So far the only ones that look like they might not make it are the acans. The torches aren't inflated as much as usual, but they are extending out. Not sure they're getting enough flow in here even though I'm getting a little sandpile around them. I'm sure the blastos will live for another few weeks then go sudden death on me . Micromussas look good, duncans and pagoda cup look pretty good, plate is meh but this one took a long time to settle into the 20 initially so I'm not going to worry just yet.

Little goby chased down some flake food this morning.

Need to run to the LFS and get some glue, putty, and look at what sort of pumps they have. And maybe a dendro for the other tank. :ninja:

I think I'm done with blastos now. If what I have doesn't make it, that's it LOL. I'm not going to be a glutton for punishment LOL.

But what you described sounds EXACTLY like what this one colony of mine is doing :(.

New tank is looking great!!!! From what I'm remembering, it looks like the 20 only smaller :).

Yea...I'm done with blastos for a bit too, which kills me bc I love how they look. Cherry Corals has some drop dead gorgeous ones right now, but given my track record this time around I don't want to risk it. Depending on how the ones in here do I'll reevaluate down the road. I hope yours pull through :(

New FTS for the new year!

FTS1-2.jpg

I replaced some of the sand with a larger grain which has helped out with the sand dunes. I stuck the duncans on the rock to get them out of the way while I was replacing the sand, and then just left them there . They look ok, so we'll see how they do and if I feel like moving them later.

Moved the torches back to the Fusion 20. Not sure what I want to put in the front right corner.

Green plate filled back out and doesn't seem fazed by the move.

GreenPlate1-2.jpg

My poor B. merlettis. They got worked over back when they were in the Fusion 20 and I had the mithrax crabs. I don't think the crabs were going after the polyps, but there was a lot of hair algae growing on them so there was collateral damage. Hoping the colony can fill back out.

Blastos1-2.jpg

The back left rock. Thinking everyone looks alright except for the acans on the left. Not sure that mini-colony will make it.

Leftrock1-2.jpg

Little Citron Clown Goby. Thinking the fish for this tank will all be little gobies. I'd like a green banded and a masked. Not sure if I can swing a fourth or not.

CCG1-2.jpg

If it fits, it sits

Not too much going on in here. Changed some placements around, got a frag of Rastas that may eventually end up on the top rock next to the Pagoda Cup. Pulled the mini acan colony that looked really bad, but everything else seems to have made it through the move just fine.

Camera really didn't want to take a picture of the Rastas

All the acans have transitioned over to putting out their feeder tentacles during the day :D

I always wonder if the plate will just try to eat Ginger, the CCG.

Acans look great! I like the placement on the rocks for the acans and the softies - they're going to look great when they grow out.

I'd be so nervous watching Genger perch on that plate. Eeek!

Cute goby! I hope he/she doesn't get eaten!

Me too! I plan to eventually have this be the goby garden so if Ginger can make it, surely the plate won't eat anyone else...right? right? Haha.

Thanks! I've still got one good size spot left since the rainbowish acan colony didn't make it. Excited to watch them grow out. The pale lavender-like ones in the front are supposed to be the blue ones from Legendary Corals but they aren't very blue in my tank. Maybe my new Tide will perk them up .

Ginger got moved into QT with the fish from the Fusion 20 :( I've been doing too much coral switching between the two tanks and I'm pretty sure the acan rock was originally in the 20, so it probably has ich buggers in it somewhere.

A goby garden sounds wonderful . I'm kinda sorta itching to add more gobies to my big tank...they really are my favorite type of fish.

Ginger is adorable :).

  • 5 weeks later...

Little update since it's been a while. Got the NanoBox Tide and I love it! Started at 120B-60W, will start bumping up slowly next week. It's much more "white" than the Razor.

FTS. I didn't mean to frag the pagoda cup that much but it cut much easier than I was expecting and broke into several pieces. Seems to be doing alright though.

FTS202-6.jpg

Not liking the Duncans placement in here. I may try to move them over to the 20. The frag is a weird shape because it's a long branch.

Duncans%202-6.jpg

Little blasto rock behind the duncs. The merlettis are looking a little better after being picked over by the mithrax crabs.

Merletti%20rock%202-6.jpg

Not sure the gold torch likes this tank at all, but it's most extended up here on the top rock.

Top%20rock%202-6.jpg

Monster green plate is still monstrous.

Green%20plate%202-6.jpg

The smaller back rock on the left is the LPS rock. I had some weird melting thing picking off acan colonies one by one and thought the red ones were toast so I did an emergency dip in coralrx. It seems to have worked as they seem to have stopped receding and are putting out feeding tentacles all the time. It didn't save the pink rim blastos but they were also having issues with sponges growing over them.

Oh, and... :slap: I just can't resist blastos. So far these ones are doing alright...and the little singly polyp of the green wellsi on the other blasto rock has been with me since the 14gal so I have a little hope.

Back%20rock%202-6.jpg

I love the little green mini scoly

Beautiful! Love the Nanobox lighting  I'm so glad the acans are recovering now. Btw, just the other night, my emerald crab very carefully picked all the meat out of my merlettis about an hour after they ate. He was reaching right down their throats to get it out

I've decided he's going to the LFS to find his Forever Home this weekend :)
