DrVENKMAN
I sent a message the other day to a professor thanking him for the frag of hydnopora. Unfortunately my phone auto corrected "hydnopora" to "pornography".... Awkward. Link to comment

TigerLily
Yay! In before tank is full of allergies and things. Allergies? LOL! My kids call algae "allergy" all the time! Link to comment
FishFrog
LOL! My kids call algae "allergy" all the time! I suppose algae is a kind of allergy.. to too much food or poop! And to some people looking at coral frags is quite stimulating, so that mistake could be a Freudian slip as well I suppose. Link to comment
FishFrog
Happy New Year everyone! It was strange to have so few fireworks here in rural England, compared to the insanity that is Amsterdam on New Year's Eve. Hope everyone has a great time and happy reefing for 2015! Link to comment

Happy new year. Tell me about it. There was barely anything here in Florida. Going to be a big adjustment. I was asleep at 10PM. Link to comment
FishFrog
It looks like my friend who did the water change on the 28th of December, won't be able to do another one this weekend. I am worried, because I won't be back until the 7th of January in the evening. I could do a regular 10 - 15% WC then right away, or a large one in the morning. My family has only been feeding the fish small amounts every few days, to keep nutrients down. Still, I'm not sure what to do. I don't like instructing people who have never helped out with the tank to do a WC, in case they mess something up by accident. Should I be worried about 10 - 11 days without a WC? Or is it better to wait and not to risk someone doing something wrong? Link to comment
DrVENKMAN
I have gone three weeks without a water change with no ill effects on a few occasions. I think 10-12 days will be fine also long as the tank is getting lightly fed and is being topped off. I personally wouldn't risk having someone inexperienced do a water change for me. The tank should be fine. I wouldn't worry. Link to comment
Steelen
Tank should be fine. Some people go weeks without a water change. When you come back just do double the normal size :-) Link to comment

I think this will be safest too. Luckily top off is barely done atm in my tank, as I'm trying to raise salinity and I have almost no evaporation. I've got 20l of water mixed at home, so if I put on some more when I arrive on Wednesday night, then I can do a 25% WC on Thursday morning. Have really been feeling the tank withdrawal to be honest. I've planned to move some coral around to increase the colour contrast between frags a bit more, that sort of thing Link to comment

FishFrog
What brings you to England? My sister lives in Lancaster with her fiancé. We were visiting for Christmas and I am staying a bit longer to help her do some wedding preparations. She is getting married in Cape Town in a few weeks so lots to do! Link to comment
FishFrog
Have decided to name the goby Mad Eye Moody. The pistol shrimp will henceforth be known as Struggles. It was a toss up between that, Sisyphus or Hagrid. Link to comment

But I have an anemone's named is Steve. Link to comment

Well I was supposed to work on my thesis today, so what do you expect Link to comment
TigerLily
Happy New Year! So are you going to be traveling to Cape Town too?! That seems like a lot of traveling… I'm still exhausted from our trip and we've been back for 2 days. Link to comment
FishFrog
Happy New Year! So are you going to be traveling to Cape Town too?! That seems like a lot of travelingÂ… I'm still exhausted from our trip and we've been back for 2 days. Thank you! Yes it is quite a lot. We are leaving on the 26th though, so I will have about 3 weeks to fiddle with the tank. I am looking forward to going back to South Africa as well, I haven't been since I was little and it will be great to see all of our family again. Extra bonus: it will be very hot down there So two weeks by the sea, staying for a while at De Hoop Nature Reserve (which is by the sea) means I have lots of time to check out the rock pools, penguins and other amazing wildlife. All my fish have names and a lot of my inverts too. Eager to get home... https://flic.kr/p/qGTA4H'>It still looks good, even through a little algae on the glass. Link to comment
FishFrog
Thanks vlangel Absalom is a great name. I really think naming everything makes it more fun Link to comment
DrVENKMAN
Everything still looks great. After traveling it is such a relief to come home and see that everything is alive and looking healthy. Link to comment
FishFrog
Everything has survived the two weeks, there was a lot of algae though so I will do another WC this weekend to get the last of it off the glass. The coralline has really taken off too. Kh and Mg were a bit low, but Sg is at a normal concentration now. Corals look happy and fish and inverts too. So I am happy as well Only the sun coral, naturally, looks worse for wear. I'll put it in a container near the top and feed it a bit more in the next few weeks. Pictures soon... Link to comment
FishFrog
I'm still struggling with the photographs. The sand always comes out so bright that I need to mess with the photo in order to even see the fungia. Link to comment
