Halo_003
Oh whoops I didn't even register that the move you were talking about was moving the corals from the AIO to the desk nano. What hardware is on the nano desk tank? Not the beer glass lol. Link to comment

What hardware is on the nano desk tank? Not the beer glass lol. Hahaha yeah, some of the corals are from the AIO. This one I have up just for kicks, to try stuff in. I already had it set up, but not on my desktop. Hardware: - jager heater - orbit marine leds - koralia 240 - smart ato - 7g mr aqua bowfront Everything but the ato and tank I had lying around from an old build. Link to comment
jabeuy
Been having lots of troubles lately. Cyano is back, this time in stringy form. And it's not only on the sandbed, but has made its way to some tips of the rockwork. Also, some spots on my rocks have started growing barely visible GHA. You don't really notice them unless you look realy close, actually that's the same case with the cyano on the rocks. Not too sure, what's causing this. I'm feeding the same, and lighting hasn't changed. Two possible causes may be: Snail deaths. Been having mysterious snail deaths. Thought it was my hermit crab doing the killing, but not so. I banished it to my rear chambers, but an hour later I saw my cleaner shrimp feasting on a dead snail. My duncan fell off the rock (probably the work of the hermit crab), and landed right around the lobo. When I realized this, the duncan was covered in a cocoon-like web. I blasted off the 'web', and it was looking really bad. I opted to keep it in the tank, placed on a frag rack. Most of the heads are slowly recovering, but a couple of the heads have totally not re-appeared (just the skeleton). I can only imagine that it decayed causing a spike in nutrients. All this, while my tests are reading clear lol. Nitrate is 0ppm (API kit), and Phosphate is 0 as well (per Hanna checker). I'm either bad at tests, these tests are inaccurate, or the cyano/GHA is gobbling up the nutrients. On a positive note, I caight video of one of my clowns a while back, looking like it's hosting the elegance coral: Link to comment
jabeuy
Lost my yellow tang Was eating fine, no visible ich, nitrates reading 0. Was swimming around last night, till I found him up against the overflow this morning. On the bright side, at least my bio load is now lower. Link to comment

jabeuy
I'm gearing up for a bigger build. Picked up a Super Reef Octopus 3000 internal skimmer from someone getting out of the hobby, and a couple GHL Mitras from a LFS that's switching lights. Got such great deals I'm feeling like I stole these bad boys lol! Link to comment
jabeuy
Some growth pictures The image on the left is today, the right is exactly 2 months ago. The sand dollar monti has nearly covered the frag disk, but one of the other montis (no idea what it's called) hasn't budged lol. It's Bosch Rexroth aluminum. Primo Reef Acrylics put it together for me when they made the tank. Link to comment

jabeuy
Great shots! Everything looks healthy - still going with a large tank? Thanks! Yup, but still haven't finalized the planning of the new build yet. Internal or external overflow? Open top, canopy or floating canopy? Starfire or not? So much undecided... So the contents of this tank are going into a temporary 30g while I sort things out. Link to comment

Nice, I feel Ya on the planning- I am almost done with my little upgrade. I would definitely go with starfire- the clarity is awesome. Link to comment

For sure. For the quotes I've been getting, its surprising not that much more to get Starfire. Which kind of overflow drain method are you using on the new build? I might've missed it on your thread haha. Link to comment

Just a standard Duroso drain pipe. Working through picking out a sump right now- not many people like the socks for sumps- have you ever used them- they sound difficult to keep clean. Link to comment

I'm leaning towards durso drains as well. I'll probably get them to drill 3 drain holes in case I change my mind later on and wanna do a beananimal or beananimal. But to start, maybe 2 durso drains and an emergency. The main advantage I'm seeing for herbie/beananimal over a durso is that they're quieter, which isn't too much a concern for me. Right now I use filter floss. Change it out every few days. Cheap and easy to change for a small tank, but not sure about a bigger one. I'll most likely want sock holders for the big build, but only use them occasionally. Link to comment

jabeuy
Moving houses soon, so tore down the tank and relocated it into the office this weekend. Was lucky enough that a friend of mine had a 30g and stand laying around. Inhabitants will stay in their current lodging until I setup the 36g AIO at the new place, or place an order for a large tank at the office(!!!)...which ever comes first So here's a new FTS: 2015-06-21 10.35.36 by JB Uy, on Flickr Just kidding Moving livestock was such a hassle, took me all day. Only losses so far, are a xenia and a couple of mushrooms. They didn't even make it to the move...I ran out of buckets and bags while packing up. Don't feel too bad about losing xenia though hahaha. 2015-06-20 12.28.04 by JB Uy, on Flickr The temporary tank is a standard 30g (or 29g?), different dimensions from my 36g AIO. Shorted lengthwise, and taller. I kinda like the effect from the taller height. It's temporary, so I just threw the rocks in a pile in the middle, but I ended up liking the scape lol. jabeuy
Doesn't look like the original 36g AIO is going back up. I'll probably sell it, or use it as a QT tank haha. Current holding tank: 2015-07-04 15.37.25 by JB Uy, on Flickr Link to comment
