Greetings fellow Nano-reefers, and Merry Xmas!

It's been around 4 months since I started my saltwater reef tank journey. I have enjoyed the hobby for the most part, and have had my ups and downs. The tank is now settling in and I am just going to keep up with my weekly water changes and let the corals and fish grow and prosper while I enjoy the tank. Here are just some pictures taken with my iPhone 6 plus. I hope you guys enjoy your holidays!

Went to the LFS yesterday just to buy a replacement cleaner skunk. Of course, that didn't go as planned. Came home with 2 new meat corals to fill some space next to the other plates. Also, took some close ups of my other corals with orbit running in bluish/white mode (I really like this mode)

Thanks for the replies fellas, I appreciate it! I actually have the same equipment that I initially posted when I started my build. The only difference is that I swapped out the Tunze 9001 for the Medium sized Ghost skimmer and it has been working pretty well for my tank and making good skim. So I have the Apex with Lab grade PH and temp probe, 2 IM custom caddy upgrades running Filter floss, Chemipure blue and purigen, I have the Tunze 3155, and a Vortech MP-10

As far as livestock, I have 2 chromis, 2 clowns, a bengai cardinal and a yellow tail damsel. My corals are pretty much all LPS and one monti cap. BYW. I really like your tank and scape Admonition!

What was your reason for switching the Tunze 9001 for the Ghost skimmer? And after having switched, which do you prefer? I'm personally debating about a skimmer on mine and have been leaning towards the Tunze 9001.

And thanks! I finally got the camera to take a proper photo heh

The main reason is because the 9001 only fit in the return chamber, I wanted to place it in the second chamber. Also with the orientation of the magnet it was a lot of trial and error to position the 9001 to get the best height for the cup. It did work and made decent skim, but I like the ghost skimmer better as it was made and designed for the Nuvo series. Skimmer fits perfectly in the second chamber and makes good skim. After breaking in, micro bubbles are gone, so I am happy.

My so-called indestructible Neo therm heater began to melt in my tank as I could smell this horrible burning plastic smell the other day. Thank God, I caught it in time, and it did not nuke my tank. I went to my LFS yesterday just to buy a heater, and ended picking up an Ehiem Trutemp. Of course after looking at my stores new coral arrivals, I couldn't resist :D Picked up 2 new corals. A lobo, and an elegance coral. I heard elegance corals (Non-Australian) version can be almost impossible to keep in a tank, but it was so beautiful that I had to take the chance and buy it! I got both corals for $35 each. Not bad for a heater replacement trip if you ask me :)

Was wondering about adding a maxima clam to my tank. I know they need more attention and spot on light/water levels, but was wondering how many of you have successfully kept clams in your Nano AIO tanks? I have a current marine orbit, and the PAR drops off the cliff at deeper levels passed 12", but I was thinking of putting the clam up in the middle or top of my rock scape. Which brings me to my final question-I know they grow, but do I have to worry if they will grow and eventually block the light of my other corals? If you look at my FTS above, I was thinking of placing it on the top right rock right in front of the Monti cap. What do you guys think?

Tank is looking great! I have the Current USA Orbit light as well, I think it's working fine for me as all the corals I have are happy and I can adjust the time settings.

How is it working out for you?

Hey-Thanks for the reply-yes, I love the Orbit and it has worked really well for my tank setup. Initially, I wanted to buy the best as I was willing to splurge and was thinking about the Radion's or Kessel brands, but I just really liked the low profile of the Orbit and the ramp timer is so easy to use and works great for lighting scheduling. Not to mention the storm/lightning and other modes are cool features. As you can tell, my corals seem to like the lighting and are growing well in the tank. Merry Xmas!

BTW-Just checked out your profile/gallery-Dude!-Awesome setup and love the modding you did on the Orbit. White looks very classy!

I haven't been following much but if you are keep sps in your tank or higher light corals you can likely keep a clam as for water they like water that isn't exactly pristine but with low levels of nutrients for filter feeding. Generally if you buy one that's about 2.5-3" it should be fine to just live on light for 80% of its nutrirnt uptake. I'd say you would be fine to get a clam as long as your willing to make the commitment of keeping your levels stable

As for it shading corals I doubt that will happen if you place it with planned growth for the clam and everything around it, it's likely the cord wil grow faster then the clam so if anything place the clam and move corals if needed. The clam may hate the spot you place it anyway and move so you may end up trimming or moving some corals anyway

Thinking about buying myself a day after Christmas gift . :D Thinking about trying out a maxima on the top right rock. I love the pretty blue colors the clams can come with. Hopefully it does OK in my tank with my light and setup. Par should be at least 100-150 in that location. We shall see......LFS opens in 3 minutes. :)

BTW-I appreciate all the nice comments above fellas! Happy NEWYEAR!!

Well, after heading to the LFS earlier today, I came home with my new baby 2" Maxima clam....Of course, I also had to pick up some new coral..... Damn this hobby.... :P

Picked up 3 new mushrooms, and a nice trumpet coral... Also got some phytofeast for the clam....I have provided some pictures of my new critters..... The clam still looks a little pissed after the trip home and acclimation, but I think he will open up tomorrow..We shall see....Happy New Year fellas!!

You should go for it and buy one. Being a new reefer I read all the horror stories and People telling you how some coral or some other animal is so hard and difficult to keep. I've just decided to buy what I like and try my best to keep it in the best conditions I can.
