pismo_reefer
Awesome macro and killer scape man I bet those snails feel like they've climbed mount Everest! Maria gave me some DOPE stuff! The Snails definitely get a workout, climbing around all day long. Link to comment

pismo_reefer
Apogee PAR Meter just got here! Thanks, Fnard!!!! omgomgomg Gonna start taking readings. I'll post my findings later. Link to comment
Reefkid88
Can't wait to see what your readings are. I'd really love to see what my 2 fixtures put out, hmm. Link to comment
pismo_reefer
We build those.... Well, we're not allowed to admit WHO we build them for (), but we do... And, they do to competitions. At any rate, I'd rather have (5) UDS's going, than run one of those. The taste from a UDS is one-of-a-kind. Link to comment
pismo_reefer
Whoa, man.... This light is WEAK. At 100% power, 3" from the light, no optics - 650PAR At 50% power, 3" from the light, no optics - 400PAR I want to order new optics, as I currently have none. I think the center led's (violets) are burning themselves out. As they appear burnt, dimmer than the rest, and the chips optics are burnt off. Like, i touched them and the optics FELL off. (Also, I understand that violet appears dim next to RB, but these are VERY dim.) The rest of the Leds look completely normal. I'm editing a pic right now, to illustrate my PAR values. Now, that I've dropped my light.... Substantially. Link to comment

Lol brb taking pictures of my neighbors pit, they're just so expensive for a big pit, was thinking of getting something like the akorn pit because the egg is too Damn expensive, plus I don't need to cook alot it's only 2-6 of us eating at a time. Pm me who you build them for lol How much are the uds? Link to comment
Reefkid88
What's par at water level, top of the rock work, half way down,on the sand bed ect ect lol that does seem kinda weak though. Link to comment
pismo_reefer
Pardon the Dyslexic numbers, lol.... The images saved funny. 50% power. 100% power. Link to comment
pismo_reefer
Pm me who you build them for lol. How much are the uds? Can't say who... We're contractually obligated to keep quiet. UDS's are $400+.... The "+" depends on how crazy you wanna get. Ex. - A Stainless drum, with stained side tables, digital therm, up pipes, etc, could be $1,200. Link to comment
pismo_reefer
Ya know what..... Its really not that bad. Acans like the sub-200's, and everything else I'm gonna keep will be fine. If I want more light I'll install optics. Link to comment
Reefkid88
Oh wow, honestly. Blame Bridgelux lol. If it were Cree's or Luxeons it'd be more. I've always wondered what mine was... 17 Cree's should put out some decent par. I'm suspecting around 150+ at the bottom with royal blues-85-/+ % blues- 60% whites-50% and uv-35-40%. I know my girlfriends light produced 285 half way down the empty tank, the guy who built it said it was hung about 10" off the tank. Link to comment
1.0reef
Those are probably knockoffs too, true Bridgelux LEDs are top of the line... Tank looks great! Link to comment
pismo_reefer
The BRIGHTNESS and COLOR are dead-on, too... Here's without numbers: 50% 100% Oh wow, honestly. Blame Bridgelux lol. I know my girlfriends light produced 285 half way down the empty tank, the guy who built it said it was hung about 10" off the tank.I'm gonna slap some 80* optics on them, to get some better focus. This also allows me to slap the unit into a canopy... Thank gawd. I think this is gonna be okay PAR, for my area. Meaning, most lfs frag tanks around here have relatively low PAR. Those are probably knockoffs too, true Bridgelux LEDs are top of the line...Tank looks great!Pfft... I vaguely remember the power supply saying 650ma, and the "Maxwellen" driver is 680ma... So..... Reefkid88
Honestly, even some sps can and will tolerate 100-150 par (Monti's,Birdsnests,Setosa's,Digi's) So I'd say the light is pretty good. Even being "Bridgelux". Have you thought you might have some disco dancing going on with optics, even 80* ?! Although it will increase par a tid bit. Link to comment
pismo_reefer
Im not gonna do the optics. I had 80* optics on here before, and they looked terrible. These PAR levels should be fine for everything I want to keep. Acans do fine in the 100-200 level. If anything they'll puff up a little bit, being on the sand. Im not an SPS kinda guy, really. The Setosa was happy at 40par, I'm sure it'll do fine at 150. Monti's just like blue light. Link to comment

I run my N-B under 50% and everything seems to be doing fine. Hope the meter helped out. Can't wait to see this grow and fill out. Should be shaweet! Link to comment

Dude, I cant thank you enough for the use of yer PAR Meter!!! Attempting to establish Led PAR, without a meter, Is like walking in the dark with no flashlight. It sucks. My Acan, whom I thought was bleaching from high PAR, Was actually being light starved. I had read WAY to into the "Actinic spectrum being less visible to the human eye" thing. I thought they were cooking, when they were really in desperate need of light. Me and muh Corulz, can't thank you enough! Well... My corulz can't, thank you, at.... All..... So, theres that.... Lol If you don't mind, I'd like to hang onto the meter for a few days. I want to put a couple more pieces in here, and test the PAR afterward. Link to comment
pismo_reefer
Also.... One of my mufuggin' Astraea Snails, just sprouted five strands of GHA. I pulled it outta the tank, manually removed the algae, and peroxide treated it's shell. I've also checked every square inch of the tank, that I can see. Not one strand of algae anywhere. But, "it's never too soon for precautions".... I've started dosing .4ml of peroxide per day. (undiluted, straight from the bottle) As per the general consensus on dosing peroxide, i.e., 1ml/10g of water volume. I've read a whole range of Coral keepers reviews of ACTUALLY dosing peroxide; And, I have to say, the results are impressive. Whether I choose to dose, in the long run, remains to be seen. Once I'm done stocking the tank, and it's devoid of algae, I see no reason to need to continue dosages. Link to comment
Reefkid88
What colors are you thinking of adding ? Regardless,I love the light and the spectrum. Everything looks awesome man. I need to find someone to let me use a par meter as well. Maybe if I put a $100 deposit down on one, someone will let me use one. Link to comment

Thanks, and yea... The light is dope.I lucked out on that one. As per additional Led's: I'm gonna add these Stunner Strips: "453nm/Magenta", and "453nm". I want more pop from my greens, hence all the blue. The greens are currently being drowned out by the white Led's. The Blue will balance the White. The White will balance the Magenta. And, my Reds & Greens will pop like a mofo... That grape Monti oughta go apesh*t, too. Link to comment
Reefkid88
Yeah,I'd say it was a good pick up. When I saw he had it for sale,he only wanted $40 or sumfin like that right ? Oh okay, dems just so damn exapensive for my taste. They'll definitely add some good color and pop to yo tank and corals though. Link to comment

No worries at all. Not like I've been using it. Just happy to see it help out a fellow reefer. As far as your color combo in the future, like the idea. On my old 5g I had 2x 1st gen Panoramas (white and blue) along with a magenta strip. That really did bring the colors out. I personally like a bluer tank, but the colors really popped with the magenta. Think you'll be happy. Link to comment
