coralreefer
i bought some lr form gulf view that has 5 or 6 mussles on it. should i try to keep these alive and risk them dying and polluting my water, or remove them? they are encrusted with polyps, corals etc. and if removed, is there a way to successfully terminated them and return the shells to the tank? see the lr at this thread:http://www.nano-reef.com/forums/showthread...&threadid=34069 Link to comment

serjuanca88
I bought 30 pounds of live rock from gulf-view and i had about 20 of these. Due to the opening and closing of these mussles I had to rip abot 15 of them off, just so the live rock wouldnt be shoved over by moving mussles. If you want the shells you could pry them open with a screwdriver and just keep opening it until the shells break apart. Scrape the animal out and discard it. Sounds unethical, but think of how many mussles are consumed in resteraunts. Link to comment
coralreefer
did you have any luck keeping the remaining mussels live? Link to comment
serjuanca88
Yah they survived just fine. I even kept one that i ripped off and layed him on top of the rocks and he lived. Link to comment
