sam_the_reefer
Aaaand...now it's recovering. Weird....but I'm glad that it's ok. It's now trying to straighten up and partially extending it's tentacles. Quote Link to comment

Nano sapiens
Leptastrea are really tough and even just a tiny bit of tissue is enough for them to grow back quickly when conditions improve. 1 Quote Link to comment
sam_the_reefer
Lost Blue today. The Story: My wife bought fighting conch for dinner (Yes, we eat fighting conch. They taste nice, but I'm always against eating them because I think they're over-harvested here. I think that's why our beaches are full of algae.) and there was a hermit crab mixed in with the little conchs so I decided to save it and put it in my tank (big mistake). It acted shy on the day I put it in, but in the morning I found out IT ATE MY LARGER FIGHTING CONCH. I took out the shell (it smelled nasty...) and did a water change and disposed of the traitor crab. The dead fighting conch shell happened to be in the nook where Blue sleeps and I think it poisoned him somewhat. I noticed he had gill problems...he was having a hard time breathing and I can see the red inflammation....like his gills were damaged physically. I knew he was a goner the day before he died, he wouldn't come out of his nook and I could see the bristle worm and a "stone-looking" crab (vultures...first time I saw the crab though, had no idea I had that in my tank) "position" themselves. This morning I found him dead. His head was under the sand (probably dragged by the crab). RIP blue. I will miss the way you dig around and stir up the sandbed. Quote Link to comment
TigerLily
Sorry to hear about your fishie. You have a beautiful tank! I live in hurricane country, so I'm always glad to hear stories of tanks surviving power outages. 1 Quote Link to comment

Herptile
Congrats on the spawn! I'm thinking of trimming my toadstool, too, but I don't have the room for frags. 1 Quote Link to comment
sam_the_reefer
@Herptile: Thanks! And cool to find a fellow pinoy reefer. Hmmm....maybe you can put the frags in your clown tank? Quote Link to comment
Herptile
That tank only has cheap LEDs for lighting. I'll just put the frags at the back of the 8 gallon, if ever. Quote Link to comment

sam_the_reefer
Yay! Traded some toadstool frags with some zoas today! My first zoas! They opened up after an hour but will wait for them to color up since the owner said they were under not-so-good lights. Sorry to hear about your fishie. You have a beautiful tank! I live in hurricane country, so I'm always glad to hear stories of tanks surviving power outages. Thanks TigerLily! Quote Link to comment

sam_the_reefer
Upgraded filter to an Eheim 2042 (from small canister filter).Pros: Increased flow. Surface agitation is enough to keep surface clear of scum. (no need for surface skimmer) Easy access to filter media when cleaning. I had to take my small canister filter apart and clean the pipes every water change and rinse out my bio media (seachem matrix) Cons: Noisy (maybe just needs to break in)I think I'm done with hardware upgrades for this year, next year's plan is to have a new stand. Current setup: As for livestock, I really want to add some macroalgae (ochtodes) in the display, but I don't have space until I sell all my toadstool frags (to fund my new stand ). Meanwhile will just wait for my first zoas to color up, grow, and spread. Mystery zoa #1: Mystery zoa #2: Mystery Favia that hasn't decided what color it is (tissue from recent growth is green): Quote Link to comment
