Meximazing
I decided to add another 12 LEDs to the mix to add some light around the tank. Here's what it looks like now. Before After Before After Tomorrow I get a sand bed. woohooo! Link to comment
swimmer4uus
I'm stoked to see this tank with a sand bed instead of bare bottom. Reminds me a lot of my scape...I would kill for your corals though Link to comment
Lee Van Reef
Damn! It looks great! The colors look insane with the LEDs. I hope my 40 breeder will turn out half as nice as yours. Link to comment
DirtyC
can you post a pic of your led fixture on how you grouped your leds?? are you using optics? Link to comment
the_gats
This tank looks great the colors are really nice. As far as the coral in question I think it might be a red planet. Does it have red polyps? Link to comment
Meximazing
I'll try and grab some pics for the LED layout for you DirtyC, and no, I'm not using optics as the tank isn't very deep. The Gats I actually bought a frag of Red planet today, and it doesn't look much like the ACR. It has brown polyps for now. I guess I'll have to wait and see if it colors up! I added a sandbed and I think it looks way better. Let me know what you guys think. Also added a few more corals today. FTS ACR Green Poccilopora Orange Cap (terrible photo) Link to comment
slasher
Looks good, but that black bottom was cool. I myself would have added sand also. Link to comment
swimmer4uus
Looks awesome still! I agree, the black bottom made for some nice contrast, but overall I think the sand is a better look for it. Link to comment
DirtyC
did you wire the leds so you have a dusk and dawn cycle??? Link to comment
Meximazing
The black bottom did provide a nice contrast but I couldn't keep up with all the detritus that would pile up. DirtyC. These are driven with Meanwell LPC-35-700's so I can't dim them with a controller. However, I do have them setup so they turn off and on a half hour apart from each other. Link to comment
DirtyC
how high off the water surface are they Link to comment
Meximazing
Left and right are 2" off the water and middle is 4" off the water Link to comment
DirtyC
damn thats low your setup got me thinking of one for my 40br too im thinking almost same as yours but im gonna wire the blues together and whites to their own lpc35 and i have an extra 24" t5 retro lying around so im gonna add that too Link to comment
Meximazing
Yea it's real low. I wanted maximum penetration without the use of optics. If you've got a canopy you should be able to hide the retro's and LEDs pretty easily. 24 LEDs works well for the island look. 36 LEDs really gives you good coverage Link to comment
Meximazing
I got bored today....so I added another 12 LEDs. All Royal blue. The tank looks WAY better to my eyes. Really brought the color temp closer to 20k. I'll put pics up soon! Link to comment
Zer0
Oh now that is straight PIMP! Sandbed FTW! I told you dude! Link to comment

Meximazing
Thanks for the compliments guys. I agree sandbed was the way to go. The YWG is a lot happier about this decision. HUGE SIG PIC I lol'd Link to comment

Meximazing
Came home to 10G of water on the Floor. My lights under water and all of my corals RTN'ed or dead. This hobby is very malicious at times Link to comment
DirtyC
How did that happen?? Man that sucks hope you don't give up Link to comment
Meximazing
Tried to figure it out. Still have no idea. I'm going to try and give the remaining coral to a local club member tomorrow and try and go from there. No access to fresh RO/DI right now otherwise I'd go a serious water change (I use Publix RO water). Link to comment
