I've never seen it sting the clam, but that might just be me. I would carefully observe if you decide to try it out. Check out the last FTS in the first post of my 58 gallon thread. Lower right hand corner. Do the tentacles ever touch the clam? Can't really tell from the pic. It seems like they're far enough away they don't touch but maybe they're not fully extended.
