Gerber77
I like the frogspawn as well. Is the tank not completely full? Link to comment
TheKingInYellow
I'll get more pichers tomorrow after the window is closed As for not completely full, not really. It's rimless, so the water line is an inch or two below the top of the tank. Link to comment

ribbie
Another winnipeg reefer! Didn't know about this thread until you bumped it today. Updates? Hows the bubble algae going? Link to comment
TheKingInYellow
It still grows, but it's controlled with manual removal, skimming and Chemipure. Still have some GHA, still have some Halimeda as well, but nothing horrible. I think for a Nano with limited nutrient export, it's not too bad at all. If I had to do it again though, I would really prefer a sump. Live and learn Link to comment
TheKingInYellow
Okay, I HAVE PICS FOR FRIENDS! So, you remember my little pink birdsnest? Here it is less than a year later: Not so little now! Remember that little Milli? The little Monti Cap? HUGE now! They are actually constantly nuking portions of each other since I mounted them too close. My bad. The Milli normally wins and the Monti just curls away from it. No biggy. Frogspawn you ask? Check out this ten-or-so head monster: So, new corals you ask? NEW CORALS! HELLO I AM A HIGHLITER MILLI PLEASE LOVE ME: I am a Montipora Digitata, and I'm kind hidden in the back a bit: Bonjour! Je m'appelle Baby Blue Milli! Voulez-vous coucher avec moi ce soir? Hi ladies, my name is Rainbow Stylophora. Please for a line to the left: I AM NOT A CORAL DO NOT BE FOOLED BY THE FALSE ADVERTISING! I'm from Bali! I'm green! I'm a slimer! Got all these new guys in the fall along with a Skyberry Staghorn and a Purple Valida, but neither has done well for some reason They are still in the tank, still have colour, but not really growing. Boo. I also sold off the fixin's of my 120g. My priorities had to shift in June for some reason: His name is Marcus. He's pretty cool but he sleeps like crap. Want to see a full tank shot? Sure you would! Instead, however, here is a picture of one of my new snakes. I'm such a tease! Okay, here it the FTS: Oh dearz, that would be a crested gecko... Third time is a charm, right? I like it. It's fun. Hate algae, but I've made my peace with it. QUESTIONS? Link to comment

TheKingInYellow
Hey there, LOOOONG time no post. I have a sad to tell. The tank, today she is getting torn down, the livestock sold, the equipment to be cleaned up and sold as well. I had a small rockslide in the tank a few weeks ago, and while the glass is all fine, the slide knocked a powerhead off and into the sandbed. Since then I've had huge sheets of Cyano everywhere, Diatoms, colonial hydroids and (I think) Dinos running wild. This all, of course, just after I introduced a gorgeous Mystery Wrasse into the tank. His name is Mr. Fins: I've Got a Sweet Wrasse! by TKIY, on Flickr Anyhow, I can't keep up two or three water changes a week with my schedule, and the livestock is starting to suffer. I've lost the hiliter mille frag, and my blood shrimp died on Monday. I've made the call the get the livestock out for their sake and it seems like cooking down the rock for a few months is the wisest choice. So, so long 20g shallow kitchen tank. I'll be taking a break for SW for a bit, and when I'm ready to go again, I'll take the lessons I learned here and make a newer more kick-assier tank. Complete with Fanbus 2.0. So, that's my sad. Thanks for reading. Link to comment
Weetabix7
I'm sorry to hear that, but I totally understand. I'm in a very similar situation myself. I wish you the best, Sir. Link to comment
TheKingInYellow
Blast from the past... 40g breeder? FanBus 2.0? Stay tuned loyal readers. Link to comment
TheKingInYellow
Have to say a 75g is tempting too. I still have the stand from my started-but-never-realized 120g build as well. It's big, and it'll handle any 4' tank so I just have to decide how to go about it. Lessons learned from the first build: - Don't give yourself only 3" of clearance over the tank to work - Sump, sump, sump - Go bare bottom, then who cares if all your pumps fall off! - ATO means I don't have to add water to the tank four times a day - I like fish but not crabs So I'm thinking something along the lines of: - 40g breeder or 75g - 20g-ish sump - LED lighting because science is rad (eBay imports?) - Vertex IN-100 skimmer (overskim for barebottom awesomeness) - More SPS than you can shake a brightly coloured immobile stick at - Some sort of ATO, maybe with Kalk - Carbon/PhosBan would be nice, also a winning lottery ticket would really help Pretty simple for an SPS tank, but not unreasonable. Either that or I'll just buy a goldfish bowl and do hourly water changes. Link to comment
