I found this really cool betta tank at petco

and thought it would make a really amazing pico.

its advertised as a "Decorative betta aquarium"

its 6X3X3 inches.

so thats about what? .36 gallons?

it looks really cool.

here are some specs.

9watt 50/50 lamp fixture

stock deco art nano filter

.5 inch black sandbed

.2 lbs live rock.

1 blue leg hermit.

1 cleaner snail.

and the pictures...

Is that the one that comes with the crocodile looking base? Very nice. A couple of sexies would be cool!

yea.

i have a picotope up and running also.

i bought it last summer and it failed to stay up with school and all.

so im going at them both this summer.

i have a solid job now and its gona be a hella lot easyer to keep these up.

its the stock picotope light and filter.

matty0206 it is that one.

i have the croc-skin lookalike base turned upside down underneath the tank.

instead of the tank being displayed in the slide in spot on the crocskin thing

its sitting on it like a stand...

heres a pic...

Picture.jpg

i want to put a few really bright colored zoos in here along with a sexy shrimp.

the colors will really stick out with the black sand and the back background

that light and filter come with the JBJ pico right? I know you said "stock pico" but I feel like I should know you guys are referring to the JBJ pico package.

Anyway, awesome setup! Thats definitely what I'll go to if my landlord flips are my tank setup.

what would the maintenance schedule be like on something this small?

I would think weekly 50% water changes from a established reef would be a good idea. would need daily top offs. a HOB fuge would be nice, like a ac20 or something.

and yes a pair of sexy shrimp woudl be awesome, so awesome that I may end up going and buying one of thse tanks soon. Seen them before and always liked them.

I saw one of these the other day and almost picked it up. I didn't want that stupid croc leather crap though. ;)

ive got some bad news and some good news.

the tank sprung aleak.

in the back left bottom corner the sealant came undone and it was starting to leak like crazy i had this laying around so i just moved everything over for the time being.

im not sure its worth trying to repair this little tank considering i can buy another one for the price of sealant practically.

the good news is

i think im going to leave everything in this .5 gallon betta tank.

its somewhat goodlooking.

and everything fits perfectly

Looks awesome, I think the .5g is going to work better. I always wanted to try those beta tanks though from petco. I always see them and wonder "what if.................". I have even tried to think of a sump idea for it. Well good luck with the new one, probably a lot more practical. I might have to do a pico too..........

just some zooanthids.

maybe a small frag of gsp.

or just a lone ric polyp.

ooo! or some mushrooms!!!

lol.

im going strictly coral for this little thing.

its way too small for a fish

here are some pics.

its a cool little setup...

front view:

angel view:

Picture004-2.jpg

i cut the back of the rim that goes on the top so that the filter could fit and so i could have somewhere for the light to clamp on to...

Picture001-2.jpg

this little thing looks bigger than it is.

hey guys.

i got back from the skatepark today and realized i lost half an inch of water in just one day.

would it be easier down the road to just make an ATO?

or just keep up with top offs?

I would just keep up with daily top-offs, seems a little small for the ATO sensors and all (it'd be cramped)

yea

i think your right.

do you think its going to be a problem keeping the specific gravity at 1.023?

As long as you remember to do daily top-offs in the tank it shouldn't be a problem. Remember, when 1/2 inch of water evaporates in a 1/2 gallon nano, that can cause quite a large salinity spike. If temperatures aren't a problem I would even suggest getting a small piece of acrylic to put on top of it to combat evaporation.
