TJ_Burton
hows your school of chromis? Doing well - except for the fact that the skinny little buggers fit between my overflow teeth! Right now I have 8 in the display and 5 in my overflow box (which is really tight to get into) so tonight I am going to do a water change, drain the box down and get them back in the display! I am going to zip tie, or super glue some gutter guard behind the overflow teeth so that they can't slip through anymore. I should have some pics of the new lighting up tonight. Link to comment

Wow that sounds like a huge PITA. I thought about glueing some eggcrate behind my overflow for that reason. Link to comment

In a word: Yes tj... how thick are your overflow teeth gaps? looking into a school of these myself... along with a school of lyretail or bartletts anthias. should do the trick for my tank. 3/8" gaps I would close up any gaps with gutter guard just to be safe. masterbuilder
Hey TJ....the whole trick to that tank is the ATI Pro Color lamp. Try one in place of your 10K. This is what I have as of now front ATI Aquablue Special (12K) ATI Blue Plus (20K) ATI Pro Color ATI Blue Plus (20K) ATI Aquablue Special (12K) back I am cycling my tank, so I cant really tell what its going to look like yet. I will say its a little on the white side for me. Those Aquablues are very bright white. I might switch one out for a Actinic or maybe a UVL 75/25. I will say that the procolor makes the little red coraline I have in my tank jump out. Like in the pic you pasted a few posts up. Mark Link to comment

The Fiji Purple bulb has an awesome effect on the colors as well. Not the same as how you are describing though. I might pick one up and swap out the 10K like you are suggesting. I picked up the Fiji Purple bulb because I saw one in action and it looked great - When I got home I looked up Reef Central's TOTM and checked what bulbs he uses - Bingo! The Fiji Purple bulb is one of them! Link to comment
masterbuilder
TJ, I have not seen the Fiji lamp in person. How would you describe the color? Link to comment
TJ_Burton
TJ, I have not seen the Fiji lamp in person. How would you describe the color? If you could imagine the old VHO 420nm dark purple actinics, but lighter, that is very close to how they look. I have it come on with a 470nm actinic as the start up for my fixture. I will take a picture later tonight so you can see. I will also take a picture of the fixture with all the bulbs on for comparison. The bulb itself looks very purple against a daylight, but light purple or whiter against the 470nm actinic alone. Link to comment

TJ_Burton
I'm really curious to see how the 'experiment' with the Chromis turns out. Have you lost any of them yet? I love the 'new' thinking on putting a ton of them in your tank. I fell for the 'schooling' idea and put three of them in a 30G. One of them was killed within days, the other 2 went back to the LFS. As far as I can tell they are all doing well - less the fact that they live in the overflow. Wow awesome shots TJ! Still one of my faves! Thanks a ton Link to comment
