peewee1467
Get started already, I want to have more NR members to talk to about planted tanks. I know I'm excited. The water has cleared up a lot too, so the next picture should look pretty good. I'm honestly surprised the pipes aren't here yet though, so they should be coming any day now.... I have had the hardest time finding a local shop to rent me a tank. I was told by Orlando AirGas that they "guarantee me that no one will rent me a tank that small, but they can sell me one for $120." LOL I'll buy one from Greenleaf for $70 before I do that. I found a big ass tank locally for $10 that I might pick up tomorrow and see if I can swap it out or something. Maybe someone with a bigger tank would want to trade me for their 5lb tank? Who knows. Also, tonight, I broke my glass diffuser. That's what I get for going the cheap route, but I will admit it was a dumb mistake. I was fiddling with it trying to figure out my tubing, and I decided to take it off the glass to add another suction cup. Well when I was trying to put it back on, I pushed on the larger portion of it to press the cups in, and broke the stem. I think I'm going inline next anyway, just need money for all this ####... damn, i guess im not the only one having bad luck today. i had my ladder next to me tank and i was taking down my lights from the ceiling and i used a wrench and when i was done, i had left the wrench on top of the ladder and totally forgot about it. i went to move the ladder and the wrench fell and literally missed my tank by 3 cm and left a little mark on my stand. lol i guess that's more good luck than bad. but anyway, when i first set up my planted tank, i had the diffuser in the tank connected to my co2 tank. I didnt know how strong the co2 was going to be so i cranked it up all the way and the diffuser flew out my tank and almost broke my lights and water flew all over. LOL that #### is DANGEROUS!! The thing is, even if you buy yourself a new co2 tank, a fill up is the same price whether its 1lb, 2.5lb, 5lb or 10lb. It's about 25 bucks regardless. Also, a lot of places will not fill your tank. They'll swap it out for one of theirs. So that brand spanking new CO2 canister of yours, thats going to someone else and you're getting a rusted jank. You should ask if they'll actually fill yours first before you buy and if you need some sort of certification for the seals. But that said, I'd pay for the ADA CO2. Not the little kits but this one. Thats hot chip right there. And also the new black Mini Solar light Link to comment

HAHAH lol damn that is lucky as ####, good thing your tank didn't end up breaking. But even your diffuser incident didn't end in disaster, I actually broke mine lol. Now I need to find a new diffuser as well...money money money.... Yeah I was thinking about that too. There is a shop that will supposedly refill any size tanks, but I have yet to confirm this. I might have a tank and get it filled on Monday, we'll see how things go. But...if you're offering to buy the ADA CO2 system for me I would gladly accept, I agree about it being teh hotness. teamschreiba
Those look great! Can't wait to see them in place of the eheim greens. Any initial thoughts on the quality?? Link to comment
schgr.cube
Those look great! Can't wait to see them in place of the eheim greens. Any initial thoughts on the quality?? They're actually really nice, I was expecting worse. The 9mm pipes are SO small, and they actually didn't directly fit the clear tubing I got at the hardware store. I had to teflon tape it and use a zip tie to hold it tight enough so it wouldn't squirt water, and I got a TINY crack from applying too much pressure at the lowest part of the tube (shouldn't be a problem, but god I ####ing suck with this glass stuff! I'm trying to be so delicate too). I would recommend them for sure for the price, at the very least just for a temp solution. Since you'll be using 13mm pipes you shouldn't have ANY problems anyway though. Awesome agreed, I've been waiting for these all week. I'm going to wait a few hours for a picture, the tank had developed a nasty biofilm over the past few days (lily pipes already taking care of that problem) so when I was messing with everything, the tank got kind of gross. Once it settles I'll do a quick water change and snap a shot. Link to comment

I almost pulled the trigger on some in the do aqua line the other day but I decided to wait and see what you thought about those ones. Now I just have a decision to make haha Link to comment

Now I just have a decision to make haha For the money I'd say go with the aquatic magic. I feel like unless you're going for the actual ADA pipes (which probably aren't leaps and bounds better, but I will still buy them eventually) you might as well just buy AM. The Do-Aqua stuff is still pretty expensive, so I feel like it's pointless... Link to comment

The do-aqua and ADA inflows are about the same prices but the ADA outflow is like $80-90 which seems like a lot of money for some glass pipes. But I'll pick something eventually whether it be ADA or AM. Thanks for the advice!! Link to comment
schgr.cube
This picture looks like ####....I need to take a better one but I'm REALLY lazy. These stupid tannins need to go away, I should have boiled the wood better. Link to comment

schgr.cube
very nice! will be following! Great looking tank! Tagging along... Thanks guys! I appreciate it! nips, it's funny you mentioned her selling the UG. She actually commented on my thread saying how much she liked my tank, and mentioned giving some UG to her friend with a similar setup. I (half)jokingly said something about wishing I was her friend, and she PM'd me saying if I paid for shipping she would send me a portion for free. Also found a local 5lb tank with a bunch of beer tap stuff (don't need, think it's worth anything?) for a steal, picking it up tomorrow. I'm one happy guy right now. Link to comment
Zer0
Awesome planted aquarium, schg. It looks amazing. That piece of driftwood is incredible and you definitely put it to great use in that tank. I can already tell this tank is going to be insane when it grows out just a little more. I've always wanted to do a freshwater like this but i just can't see myself doing anything other than a reef.. A little sad i know, but maybe in the future i'll have time to do both. Definitely will be following your excellent build. Link to comment

schgr.cube
I had to pay her 10 bucks for my ug >=( Well the shipping was $5 so that's not too much more than I paid. Im also not getting mine for a bit because im in DC looking at apartments for the next week. Speaking of which, the guy watching our place says our cats are drinking about 1/2" of water a day... I never had this problem with the reef. Link to comment

schgr.cube
congrats on the job. the build looks awesome Thanks! Ordered the GLA inline atomic diffuser today, as well as a brass check valve. Going tomorrow to get the CO2 tank tested and (hopefully) filled. If all goes well, CO2 should be running early next week, in preparation for my new UG delivery... Link to comment
