Mr. Microscope
Well, I found another nudi messing with my zombie eyes. So, I've evicted all nudi deligates and declared war on the nudibranch nation. Any slugs caught trespassing will be shot on sight. The little guy in the box is no longer in my tank. Sigh...it was fun while it lasted. I actually noticed this while taking a picture of my new blue spotted mushroom that I traded for today. Check it out. The yellow arrow points to the nudi on the zombie eyes. Link to comment
Mr. Microscope
Nom nom nom! Here's a fun video of a brittle star. I was feeding my goby and this little guy came out of the rockwork to get a piece of the action. I saw him come out of the rock behind and start to crawl across the sandbed towards the glass. 'Got out the iPhone and started shooting. I hope you enjoy. I like the part where he uses his two dominant arms to pull himself up on the glass. And by request..here's a short video of my giant Nassarius. This one's for you .Newman.! Link to comment
meganistkrieg
Hey, I know that mushroom! If you can glue/epoxy the little rock-piece it's on to a piece of LR, it'll settle more quickly (and make babies!). Eeek on the nudis. Nudis and flatworms = no fun at all (even if I think the nudibranches look pretty neat, too!). Will keep an eye out on mine as well. Keep us updated on how you're battling the nudibranch army! Mr. Microscope
Hello All, It's been a while since I posted a FTS. There's also been a lot of changes this month. FTS 2010.05.28 Here's a top down view. As you can see I've expanded the frag racks, and gotten about everything off the sand bed. Hopefully the Nassarius will be able to do a better job now that he's not so crowded by frag plugs sticking in the sand. Here's the bunch. I've got a three tiered stack on the right for different light intensities, and one on the left for whatever. Also, you can see I moved around a couple rocks. Gobiodon has also expanded his territory to the other side of the tank. Here he's pretending he's a zoa. I finally feel a sense of relief like the tank is starting to come together and is settling to a coasting speed. It's taken seven months, but I'm getting a little more relaxed about things and feel like I can focus more on the health of my corals and just watch them grow without pis$ing them off by moving them once a week. The PAR38 has been readjusted again. I moved it up a little higher and centered it so everything is more or less getting evenly lit. I'll be getting some lugols and learning how to dip. Also, I'm not really seeing many flatworms anymore. I'm sure there's probably a bunch that I don't see, but that should mean that the flatworm eXit treatment shouldn't be too difficult. I've seen a lot of pests lately from the flatworms to the nudibranches, but I did see one good hitchhiker the other day. After picking up a frag I noticed a tiny bristle worm. My first one! It had a pretty orange end on it. I hope he has fun scavenging. Link to comment
badfish816
make sure you do a huge water change and run chemi pure or carbon after you dose. you don't want to nuke your corals. tank looks amazing. Link to comment
Mr. Microscope
Thanks! I've got it planned out for right before my next water change. I have a bag of chemipure in there now. I'll take it out for the dose. Do you think I should get a new one? That one has been in there only two months. I left my last one in four months. It seems everyone changes their bags seasonaly. Perhaps I'll put it back in after the dose, run it for a day, then replace the whole thing. Also, I'm thinking that during the dose that I'll turn off the Koralia and turn up the flow on the AC70 with some added filter floss. Link to comment
badfish816
that plan sounds good. i left mine in for 4-5 months. should be fine. and turning the ac70 up is good too. Link to comment
racechase
I like your pico does your goby anger your coral? I had one that raped everything in my tank and they hid the whole time he was cute as all get out, but the coral came first Link to comment

I had one that raped everything in my tank and they hid the whole time he was cute as all get out, but the coral came first Thanks racechase! Yikes! No, I haven't seen him mess with anything. Even when he lands on my palys, they don't seem to really close up. I've read that they like to eat acro polyps, but other than that are supposed to be reef safe. What was you goby doing? Did you have a YCG? I agree about the corals. They are the main focus for me too. I'll keep an eye out for any holes poked in my zoas. Link to comment
racechase
Yeah, I had a YCG. He would sit on my acans and pic at my acros and montis I think your birdsnest is fine tho, its skeleton is covered by polyps. The zoo's and other softies were fine tho Link to comment
Mr. Microscope
Hmm. 'Didn't know they mess with monti's too. Thanks for the heads-up! Link to comment

friar1
Hey Mr M. Love the fish, is the Picotope 3 gallon or 3.5 gallon? Friar Link to comment
.Newman.
lol friar its the same as mine, a 3gal. Link to comment
friar1
Silly me, I have not been paying attention The fish looks so small in that 3 gallon. I have a 3 gallon Marineland Eclipse. I guess when we move the goldfish out of that (We will have to eventually), I can convert it to a reef tank. I think my wife would really like that! Wait a minute! I only have three weeks on my 1.5 gallon! What is this hobby/obsession doing to me anyway? Don't I have enough to do, changing water twice a week, testing, fretting over new livestock? Just because I want a fish, I want to get another tank started already? aaaaahhhhhhhh Friar Link to comment
Mr. Microscope
welcome to addiction..... +1 @friar yeah, my goby is really small. He's probably no more than a inch. I think he's getting happier. He seems to be going all over the tank now. I even saw him towards the bottom and on the sandbed today. Also, I got him eating the arctipods now in addition to the cyclope-eze. He's still picky with them though. I thought that he was still rejecting them. But, I realized that he takes one, chews up all the meaty stuff, and spits out the shell! Link to comment
sanchez
Your signature picture is amazing. I do kinda miss the purple lobster though Your tank is pretty rad too Link to comment

Mr. Microscope
Mr. M = 1 Flatworms = 0 As planned, before my water change today I used the Salifert Flatworm eXit. I gotta say it did it's job! It only took 3 drops too! I siphoned out some and manually pulled out the rest with a pipette. There weren't that many in there; certianly less than 50. But, hey! I'm a microscopist. I deal with the small stuff. During the whole process my goby was fine and acting normal (he didn't go to his safety spot), and my corals all stayed open including the touchy toadstool and birds nest. I finished siphoning out the appropriate amount of water, put back in the chemi-pure, and poured in my usual 4 liters of fresh SW. I'll probably do one more treatment next week just to be safe, but I don't think I'll be seeing anymore of those little red demons anymore. [middle finger] Flatworms!!! Link to comment
