Begow
Well fellas, the wife finally won the battle and said I need to keep the tank small until we buy our new house. Originally we moved into this house planning to close in January (friend owns it) but since then have realized it's just too small, and too damn old. I applied for my VA Home Loan and got approved so now we're searching for homes and banks, hopefully my credit is good enough! Either way though, I sold all my big fish tank stuff and ordered an Innovative Marine Fusion 10. I pretty much wanted something to keep all of my high end zoanthids with some light LPS/SPS sprinkled in. This will let me keep my prized pieces, while growing them out until we get a new house. Hopefully we find a home within the next few months because this place is continuously shrinking! Equipment List: Innovative Marine 10 Fusion Nano Box Mini Tide (Non-Lime) Innovative Marine Desktop Reactor (Carbon/GFO) Bulk Reef Supply 75 GPD Value RO/DI Cobalt Aquatics 50W Neo-Therm heater Jebao WP-10 (Still not sure if this will be overkill) Biological Filtration: 5-15lbs of cured live rock from my big system 10 lbs of Tahitian Moon sand Livestock: Pair of Premium Black Snowflake Clownfish Pom Pom Crab CUC Corals: Reef Tech Starburst Montipora Cap Rainbow Acans Rasta Zoanthids Latin Lovers Palythoas Chuckie's Brides Palythoas Yoda Palythoas Red Hornet Zoanthids Aussie Pop Palythoas GARF Bonsai 3 inch Bleeding Apple Scolymia (my favorite coral easily) 7 inch Green Carpet Anemone Green Acans WWC Rainbow Prostrata My tank will be delivered on Friday of this week, and hopefully the gentlemen I bought the Nano Box from will ship that tomorrow. Will post pics of everything once she's up and running. Anyone out there have a good configuration of how to run GFO and Carbon in the Desktop Reactor? Separate it with sponges? Mix it together? Is there a certain amount I should be using? Link to comment

GFO needs to "tumble", carbon like to be sandwiched between foam so it stays put while water passes through it. Start slow with the GFO. ...you can shock the shit out of your coral. I lost a few acan colonies when I started ....I pretty much packed my reactor with GFO to nuke my gha. It worked. Link to comment

Gotcha, in the past I've had issues with Cyano in small tanks like this, even with limited feeding and lighting periods. I'll probably run carbon for the first few weeks, maybe a month and re-evaluate then. Do you happen to know of any good supplements for coral growth and coloration? Is it even worth dosing for calc/alk/mag in a tank this small when I do 20% water changes weekly? Link to comment

Is there a certain amount I should be using?I run both- separate for sure or the GFO will grind up the carbon. I run 1 sponge then GFO at the bottom and then separate by a large distance -and another sponge and fill your carbon at the top sandwiched between sponges. It can be tricky to rinse the media - I fill my GFO to the desired level then gently pour in some RODI water a few times until the water is clear. Place another sponge at the top bout 3 or 4 inches from the top- fill with carbon and gently pour in more RODI water slowly or the sponge will break loose. Then another sponge at the top. When I initailly turn on the unit the pump pushes all the GFO to the top sponge- I always turn it back off after a few seconds and let the media fall back down then start it up again. This tends to keep it more in place and tumble. You want you GFO to tumble or it can harden. Not your carbon- keep that sandwiched between two sponges. Then spin the chamber and adjust flow to tumble the GFO. You shouldn't need much GFO- maybe a couple teaspoons- it will work fast so be careful. Maybe start with running for a few days only or a week if you have high phosphates. I upgraded my pump to the Sicce MI Mouse pump and it has kept my GFO tumbling really well- the stock pump I had to shake my reactor evey few days to keep the GFO tumbling. Hope this all makes sense- hit me up if you have any questions Gotcha, in the past I've had issues with Cyano in small tanks like this, even with limited feeding and lighting periods. teenyreef
Sad to hear about your big tank - it was looking nice! But several of us have been comparing notes on how to best use the IM10 - check out the IM10 Fusion Club thread in the AIO forum: http://www.nano-reef.com/topic/354440-innovative-marine-fusion-10-club/ As far as dosing goes, if you end up with lots of SPS you'll need to dose just like in a big tank. Water changes make a much bigger difference but alk can go down significantly in a day if you've got more than one or two SPS, even in a 10g tank. From your stocking list, I'd say it's a toss up on whether you'll be able to stay stable between water changes or not. Link to comment

Begow
Really been looking into this, looks super cool!!! And I feel like it could fit right inside of the overflow chamber. What do you guys think? http://www.santa-monica.cc/DROP2-drop-in-upflow-algae-scrubber-with-Green-Grabber-surfaces--02-cubes-feeding-per-day_p_47.html Link to comment

Yeah it comes with everything including a light, I just wonder how well it would fit, I'll have to look at measurements. I don't think it would fit with a inTank basket, but I run a reactor so I don't need a basket besides for floss really. Im in the same boat i got approved for my va loan im going to use usaa. House searching is a pain in the ass. Oh shit man, I didn't even think about going through USAA. I've been insured with them for like 11 years. Good thinking! Link to comment

Are you still active? Nah I was med boarded 3 years ago, 80%. I applied this evening, they declined me because my credit score was 5 points too low, this is after 11 years of banking and insurance with them. Dicks! I'm doing a debt consolidation I think, so I can raise my points up within the next 20-30 days. Welcome to the club! I have a wp 10 on wave 1 and speed s3, which works great for me! Where do you have it positioned? Thanks for the welcome sir Link to comment

Thanks for the welcome sir I actually have it right underneath the return nozzle, so I put the suction cup magnet on the third chamber behind the false wall. This way, it doesn't bother me when I clean the glass. Link to comment

Hopefully you each find a great house. Begow - sorry to hear about the big tank! I am sure you will have fun with this one until you can get settled in. And yes, that mini doser looks good. But at the price, you could find a good used BM dose and have 3 pumps for what you would pa for two of those. Link to comment

My SPS seem to be doing great after like 3 months with no dosing. I have about 4 frags. I do 1 gallon water changes per week. I was thinking about starting to dose Kent Marine part A and B, but I don't know if it's worth it. Link to comment
