Mr. Microscope
Great concept, but I think you'll be overstocking a 29 hex with all those fish. I'd just stick with one of those pairs, or of each, or go up to a larger tank. Seven fish is pushing it even for a 40B IMO. Link to comment
llama roadkill
Finally! A thread for your Mandarin tank. Can't wait to see some pics. Link to comment

I can't possibly feed more than I already do! (1.5 frozen cubes in the 40B a day). In the coral magazine, Matt Peterson kept 3 spawning pairs of dragonets in a 29g planted. I hope to replicate this. Luckily he lives like 10 min away from me and I met him IRL so I can get some pointers I think aggression will be the biggest possible problem. We'll see. I will be using a carbon source as needed to control nutrients however and I don't believe he did this and I hope to tune it in so I still have a fair amount of nitrates to grow macro's Link to comment
Cameron6796
Sounds good to me. Pics ASAP please. Are you going to get ones that eat frozen food, Only option in such a small tank i would think. Link to comment

Yes, I already have two My blue has been with me over a year now. Will try to get pics of the tank soon. Here are the pics of my two babies, they are currently in my 40B but will be moved over when the tank is ready: Link to comment

Egginis
Just make sure to quarantine everything first before adding. You seem to have a very detailed plan so I am sure you already planned for this. The worst thing that can happen initially is to add the new fish and have them infect your current ones with something. I am really interested in this build and excited for you. Looking forward to following along and some great pics. Link to comment

Looking forward to following along and some great pics. No worries there, very few fish of mine haven't gone through QT. Basically the ones I skipped QT were from a trusted local reefers tank or sometimes Divers Den items. Plus I need to train them to frozen in a smaller tank anyways Link to comment
Tamberav
Ammonia: 0 Nitrite: Who knows, I've never had a test kit for it Nitrate: 10 Added some caulerpa prolifera and 2 mushroom polyps to see how they do. No pics yet as I made a dust storm when I planted the macro Link to comment
Tamberav
Ugh, I want to put a mp10 on this but thinking it makes no sense since the tank is skinny and tall. Wp25 may be best option but no battery backup then.. grrr.. Link to comment
Tamberav
Some pics so you get the idea. It is VERY cloudy as it is new sand and I was adding more macro. I don't have any sort of skimmer or filter yet so the sand just settles on everything. Haven't even got my pumps yet, trying to figure out which ones. Link to comment

Tamberav
Added my green banded goby, 4 sexy shrimp, bunch of corals, and my flower nem. The flower nem is really pissed off since I had to chisel him off his rock. Then I glued the small piece of rock he was still attached to down. I figure he will let go and move if he wants to. Oh and the 1st thing the flower nem did was regurgitate a bristle worm @.o Link to comment

JoeDigiorgio
Bristle worm infestation? Arrow crabs too aggressive? Get a flower nem! Seriously though, idk much about flower nems other than the fact that they don't move a ton and they stay small but I've heard they have a pretty strong prey capture ability. What's your take on keeping these in a dragonet tank? Link to comment

What's your take on keeping these in a dragonet tank? guess its a nem.. it can sting and eat things but a healthy fish generally has enough smarts and strength to stay away. Plus I wonder about their slime coat being a deterrence. I have a large plate coral and my mandy's never touch it.. they will swim over over it. I assume they would do the same with a flower nem. I would assume the nem would eat any pods near it though. Link to comment
Tamberav
Bought a Eheim 1250 return pump off another reefer to serve as my return pump Woo! Moving forward! Link to comment
Tamberav
I think I'm going to forgo the spotted pair and stick with a blue male and a red female. My spotted is just way to hyper and crazy while my blue is docile and lazy. I also found this video and wouldn't want this to happen: Link to comment
