A.m.P
Friends, I once again require assistance. I've spent three months now trying to get a 40 breeder; the first leaked through the side, the second poured water out comically from a corner (draining it in a fountain stream), and the latest came with an internal clamshell on one edge. The clamshell is deep, still intact, and appears to have some internal microfractures/stress-lines. I want some honest opinions as I'm having a hard time justifying bringing it back for another refund, waiting for restocking, and grabbing a fourth... Quote Link to comment
mcarroll
Dang if I can tell where that crack is exactly, even from the photos. You're saying "internal" as in it's in the area between the two panes of glass? That's supposed to be where the silicone bonds, right? As far as I've read the rest of the silicone bead is more or less for aesthetic or secondary purposes...not for holding the glass together. If the crack is in that bonding area, it would have to be close to the top..and even then I'm not really sure that's better so I think I'd be thinking about it breaking all the time. (Me: "Wonder if duct tape would help?") I'm not sure if that helps.... 🤷♂️ Quote Link to comment
A.m.P
Lol, yeah, hard to photograph, it's internal as in within the pane of glass (rather than typical clamshells which pop all the way out or are on the surface). It doesn't go down into the silicone, but its wide enough to be about half the panel's thickness. To clarify the crack's on the panel which has the seal perpendicular to its' surface ( so the front panel, not the side panel). 1 Quote Link to comment
aclman88
That's a bummer! Sorry about all the trouble you are having... If it were me, I wouldn't chance it and I would return it for a replacement. Personally, I would never be comfortable with any crack (especially when I just spent money on a brand new tank which should come clean as a whistle) and 40 gallons is a lot of water to end up on a floor if it ever fails. Probably not the response you wanted to hear, but thats my honest opinion. 1 Quote Link to comment
coralline-adam
I'd return it. 1 Quote Link to comment
