Whitten
Great looking rock work. I too have a 30 gallon cube. So what kind of light do you have over it, and what is the method of water movement? Link to comment
cpreefguy
I like the aquascaping, I just hope you didnt pay for it as "live rock" lol. What are the specs? Link to comment
MarLooney
i really like the aquscaping too... i just wish it didn't touch on the sides. that glass will get dirty there and i think the beauty of a cube is making it nice from either all sides or at least the front three. also, you're going to reef the tank and you didn't get liverock? badmatt
too bad that bulb is 6500 K :"( GET A 20000K Link to comment
Chyendra
The "aquascapeing" is really cool, you'll have alot of flexablity with where you can position your corals. That cave will be great for low-light or non-photosynthetic corals (mmmm a bright sun coral would look great in there) I agree with the light color... ewww... Good chioce on the MH though. It's the perfect shaped tank for a pendent. I really can't wait to see this tank a few months down the road. Link to comment
TimsVw
Well I got the bulb and lamp used so it all came together. I would like to get a 20,000k for it but it will have to wait a little while. As far as not using live rock there is some rubble in there and the sand was live sand, so it will all build up in time. I just don't like paying all that money for live rock when I can have the same effect in a few mo. I am still working on all the water flow before I get my corals in it. Will update as I progress. -Tim Link to comment
Chyendra
see if you can at least get some nice quality live rock... if only a few pounds, so that you can spread some coraline algea around the tank eventually Link to comment
TimsVw
Thats no problem, it doesn't even take a few pounds to get coraline spread. -Tim Link to comment
Withers
just because it "looks" like live rock definitely doesn't make it live rock. there's a reason it costs twice as much as base rock. so even when it gets covered in coraline, it still might not have the bacterial capacity of good quality live rock. MarLooney
eww... no!... don'g to 20k! Link to comment
TimsVw
Actually with seeding it right the bacteria is one of the easier things to build up. -Tim Link to comment
TimsVw
MarLooney what bulb do you suggest? -Tim Link to comment
Withers
just out of curiosity, how do you know this? Actually with seeding it right the bacteria is one of the easier things to build up. what is your filtration on this tank? p.s. the aquascaping looks nice. i would suggest either a 20k bulb or a 14k bulb, depending on how blue you like the tank to look. Tigahboy
I love that huge cave! Please post pics when you get the wrasse...that guy will look awesome in your tank! Link to comment
TimsVw
My only filtration will be live rock, live sand, hang on the back refugium, and a skimmer. As far as the bacteria go it is what I have gathered from talking with people and biology classes that I have taken. I have also set up other tanks before and seen the smaller organisms take to the base rock with in a matter of weeks. -Tim Link to comment
Whitten
You can throw base rock in a tub of regualr LR, and in a few days you will have bacteria growing in it. Bacteria propagates very quickly, and while the rock may not look mature it has more than enough bacterial cultures to become matured in a period of a few weeks. Coraline algae and what ever growth that is on LR is just an added bonus that we pay for. If you love all the little critters, and enjoy having hitchhikers, and all other manor of cool animals then fully cured LR is awesome. But if you plan of filling every square inch with corals, and have alot of patience then bare rock or Base rock is plenty fine. In time it will be indeciferable from LR. Link to comment
cpreefguy
True, alot of people are now replacing their bioballs for live rock rubble because of the rocks capacity to propagate and hold bacteria. Link to comment
TimsVw
I will eventually go 20k, I like the blue look. Also I am just about ready to hook the skimmer up. I am hoping to add the next fish in about 3 weeks or a mo. The GSP and some zoos will be on their way at the beginning of nov. I like to take things slow and make sure my water says good for at least two weeks before I add something new. -Tim Link to comment
MarLooney
20k looks too fake IMO. i'd go 14k. Link to comment
