greaps
Hey, I'm in the process of setting up a 40 breeder reef. I will be putting it on a work bench style table (48X25) (plenty sturdy) and don't intend on setting up a sump. I am debating on how filter the water. A few options have come to mind. This will be in my living room so aesthetics and noise are important considerations. Plan to do weekly - bi weekly water changes as time goes on, changing about 10 Gallons at a time. Option 1 Aqua Clear (50-70) +Intank Media Basket) running mechanical and carbon / phosphate remover $120ish Option 2 Aquamaxx HOB 1.5 Skimmer $230 Option 3 Reef Octopus HOB 1000 $190 Option 4 Tunze MAR-3181 (Cheato Algea Reactor) (Rated for 26 to 160 gallons) $307 I want to keep the tank with only a minimal amount of equipment, and I don't plan to combine items above. What would you recommend? Quote Link to comment
Clown79
I'd recommend a seachem tidal filter or aquaclear filter, I personally preferred the tidal over the aquaclear. Far quieter and has more features to it. Quote Link to comment
Sharbuckle
I’m with @Clown79 on this one. I’ve never used a seachem tidal but they look pretty awesome. Otherwise I would buy an AC110. Quote Link to comment
Solarflare8806
on my 40 gallon I had both an ac 70 and a reef octo 1000 HOB, worked well. I also used NOPOX to cut down on nutrients. Quote Link to comment
knox_legend
I run an AC 110 with a intank media basket on my 40b, works great. Quote Link to comment
