knox_legend
Well I guess I’ll go ahead and start my journal off. I have been painting and building warhammer 40k for a little while and now with moving into a new house the time is right to take a detour from that hobby and get back into a reef. I had a small nano tank many years ago 5.5 gallon and a 135 fowlr but several moves and life changes made those go away so now the time is right to start another I believe. Tank: standard 40 breeder Filtration: AC 110 and 60 pounds rock Light: SB Reef 32” pro Heater : Hygger 200w titanium with external control Flow: Hydor 240 and Hydor 750 till I can upgrade. Salt: Instant Ocean for cost and ease of availability. I’ve read salt threads for hours and consistently IO is in some great tanks and runs real consistent numbers and I want consistency first and foremost. Fish: No plans yet but I would like a six line but after that I’m not sure. Coral: Mostly zoas, LPS, RFA and eventually a plating monti( one of my fave sps) On to some stand construction pictures. 1 1 Quote Link to comment
Christopher Marks
Great to see you back @knox_legend! Looking forward to following along with your new 40B nano reef build, looks like you're off to a great start. So much has changed since you've been away, and yet so much remains the same 😄. What did you keep in your 5.5 gallon reef back in the day? Quote Link to comment
knox_legend
Can’t wait to finally get some water in this tank! I had zoas, frogspawn, clove polyps, mushrooms, monti and I believe some type of brain. It was a good looking little tank and if I could find 18” t5 ho bulbs again I’d set up another as I still have the fixture. 1 Quote Link to comment
knox_legend
Well doors are on and tank in place. Now to set up my water station and get a few more pieces and we should be getting wet soon 5 Quote Link to comment
knox_legend
My intank media basket came in today and damn I’m happy I picked this up, and talk about fast shipping! Quality made and looks like it’ll work out perfect! 2 Quote Link to comment
ef4life
Your stand looks nice, I’m digging the 2tone look, and intank really makes some top quality stuff. 1 Quote Link to comment
knox_legend
Thanks! I was a little unsure about how much lighter the doors were but I’m liking more and more. I was quite impressed with the media basket and now I just have to figure out what I’m going to run in it Quote Link to comment
Ratvan
Ha, I'm considering taking up the painting side of 40k again to distract me from spending too much on fish and corals. That stand is gorgeous and that media basket is ace 1 Quote Link to comment
knox_legend
Thanks! With so many good new 40k models it’s hard not to spend aquarium money on them. 1 Quote Link to comment
knox_legend
Well my Reef Breeders photon 24 came in today and I must say I’m pretty happy I went with this light. It looks pretty fantastic and well made. Customer service from reef breeders has been amazing so far and I can’t wait till my rp-m pump comes in! Programming seems a bit daunting so I’ll have to spend some time figuring this out. 4 Quote Link to comment
ef4life
I have an old photon 24 on my tank, the new ones are so sleek and with all the different channels now it’s a good light made even better. 1 Quote Link to comment
knox_legend
My only complaint about it is that it’s not very intuitive to set and program. I will say reef Breeders are quite helpful with questions. It’s a learning curve but I have a month to figure things out while this tank cycles. 2 Quote Link to comment
knox_legend
Ok after screwing around for an hour or so I think I’ve got the hang of the custom programming. I went with a program I downloaded off the RB website. I think I’ll end up turning down the intensities as some of them are probably rather high to start stuff off with. 1 Quote Link to comment
knox_legend
Looks like my final piece of equipment for the time being came in today. This pump looks to be pretty decent and I hope I can now get rid of one of the koralias. Does anyone have any experience with this pump? With the Memorial Day sale discount I figured I may as well give it a try. 4 Quote Link to comment

knox_legend
Thanks! I certainly am no carpenter but I think it came out pretty decent. 1 Quote Link to comment
knox_legend
And we have water! I’m trying to get my salinity up as I calibrated my refractometer wrong and it was around 1.019 so I’m trying to get it back up to around 1.026 before I add bacteria and my ammonia. I will say this pump is pretty nice and will move a decent amount of water. I’m hoping it’s all I’ll need with the ac 110 at full blast and a nano 240 behind the rock work 3 Quote Link to comment
Christopher Marks
Congrats on the first day with water, that's exciting @knox_legend! That whole @Reef Breeders system looks like a perfect solution for your nano reef, that pump is really sleek too, I didn't know they offered one. The aquascape looks really cool too! 2 Quote Link to comment
knox_legend
Thanks! I went back and forth in the scape several times. I had 60 pounds of rock but just couldn’t get it all in without it taking up too much room. I believe the reef breeders pump is relatively new I think. So far I’m really liking it! It has several modes and timers and things I haven’t even figured out yet. For the price I think it’s really a great deal. 3 Quote Link to comment
knox_legend
Well added some Dr. Tim’s today and ammonium chloride let the cycle begin. I really need to get a cleaner for the inside glass. There’s a bunch of film all over the glass from the sand. 1 Quote Link to comment

I never seen it before, I was doing some research on it last night, it might be my next Wavemaker when/if one of my jabeos die. 1 Quote Link to comment
knox_legend
So far I really like it. Pushes a really decent amount of water. I’m hoping I can just use this one pump but if I need another I wouldn’t hesitate to pick up another one. 1 Quote Link to comment
Tigahboy
Nice work on the stand! The Reef Breeders pump looks pretty cool. I also started my cycle with Dr .Tim's this past weekend. May we both have a fast cycle. 1 Quote Link to comment
