How long should I leave Chemi pure and poly filter in ?

Seabass has given a thorough explanation of the use of carbon and its purpose.

 

I as well use less than the recommended amount and change it every 2-3 weeks.

 

I rinse my media bags every week during waterchanges as well to remove any detritus.

 

I either use Seachem Matrix which has already been linked for you. 

 

Or I use Kent carbon which I prefer as it has the least amount of dust and rinses clean quickly.
