Berkay
Hi again ! I setup my second Nano reef. About 8. Day of tank. I used 3 biodigest and a bioptim for 150 lt tank. But diatom didnt start yet ... ım waiting 😕 there is a problem, that is tds i setup with 10 tds Ro water. Sfter i replaced silicat but after filled tank .. is that a big problem or not important ? So when i should star water changes ? Should i perform first water change ? Or wait till diatom ? Thank you 🙂 Quote Link to comment
Daniel91
Have you introduced lights? Without lights, you will not have a diatom bloom. The first water change should be changed when your biofilter cycle is complete. Quote Link to comment
Berkay
I have a light but it is now on older tank. After diatom bloom i will put light on it. Because There is corals on first tank. Tomorrow i will add tunze protein skimmer. Im not sure but most likely i saw spots on rocks but little little. 3/4 days after diatoms should i change water ? Someone starts water changes at the beginning. Quote Link to comment

Diatoms are due to phosphates and silicates, they just aren't as noticeable with lights off but they are there. Quote Link to comment

Thank you 🙂 Your first waterchange is done once your cycle is complete and the only way to know if a cycle is complete is by testing ammonia and nitrates throughout the cycle. Diatoms have nothing to do with cycling a tank. You can buy new sand and add it and get diatoms in a 4 yr old tank. Quote Link to comment
Berkay
Ok thank you. Today i saw spots at the rocks. So diatom started. I hope in 7-8 days diatoms spreading will stop. After that i will perform my first water change. During period should i use onlu blue and Royal Blue at lightning ? White red or day light can cause to MOre diatom ? Quote Link to comment
edgewater
I personally just used a normal light schedule when cycling. More feedback would be great tho! Quote Link to comment

Berkay
Okey so ? Thats nearly 10 th day of diatom. I will do %40 water change todar. Parameters nitrate : 6-7 ppm ammonia:0 nitrite 0 with Salifert. After replacing a better heater ı will add some soft corals. ReefGoat
Don't sweat the Diatoms. There's a lot of information out there that will drive you crazy as it did me. They are not a part of the cycle in my opinion and some people don't even experience them. In my last tank they came and went as quickly as they came and I spent a lot of time googling, questioning and worrying about nothing for at least a week. Once I added my clean up crew (don't add these until you're done cycling) they demolished them quickly. Are you only 10 days into your cycling process? 1 Quote Link to comment
paneubert
I agree with @ReefGoat. I did not use light for my cycle, and did have a few days of diatoms when I did turn the lights on. But they went away fast. Quote Link to comment
