Acclimating Hellfire Acan, Looney Tunes Acan, XL Toxic Fuzzy Shroom, Rainbow Monti, and a FREEBIE from Aqua SD. I know this is a lot for a new tank. If I lived closer to a good fish store I'd love to just spend $20 on a single coral and see how it does. When ordering online it's hard to spend the $40 shipping on a single cheap coral. I'm just going to have to monitor the tank. The Acans and Shroom opened up already when temp acclimating. The shroom looks amazing. Can't wait to see everything under full lights. And find out what the freebie is!

Nope, it's worse when you live near LFS and aqua cultures, impossible to leave with just one piece!

 

Also, great choices for first corals!

Thanks. And yeah I could see myself going in every week to see what new goodies they got in.

In my excitement after putting the corals into the tank I made a stupid mistake while trying to do a water change. I forgot to turn off my ATO! I just can't get used to it. The whole time I was draining water it was adding freshwater. My salinity dropped from 1.025 to 1.023. I did a couple small water changes and it's at 1.024 now. I searched and seen it's okay to raise salinity .002 in one day? Is it okay?

 

Here's the corals afterwards. They seem okay. Never closed up.

So I can't stop spending money. My green clown goby is in! He's way to shy right now to get a pic. But he is already eating whatever flakes float into his hole, so I guess that's good. I just ordered a hydor mini evo powerhead. I think the Sicce 560gph is just too much. A spinstream nozzle for the return. And an Icecap salinity tester. I feel like I need to keep re calibrating my refractometer and it's making me think my salinity is not what I think it is. Wondering if that's because I'm using the same pipette for the salt and rodi water. Maybe there's some salt residue left in it? I just pulled 2 new pipettes and labeled them now.

I find that you have to re-calibrate the refractometer every 2 weeks using the calibration fluid instead of RODI.

He's finally out. It's night time in the tank but it's a start. I turned up the moonlight and watched him for a bit. He hopped along the sand. Realized I'm having an algae bloom ugh.

So I have a new tank algae bloom happening. Decided to get a real cleanup crew and some shaving brush plants because I like them and will help a tad with nitrates. One of the Ceriths ended up being a blue hermit. Didn't want crabs this time around but he went right to work on the algae covered frag plugs so I suppose I will keep him. I ordered this from live aquaria and well I wanted free shipping so I threw in a couple corals. A neon green monti digitata and a blue spruce caulastrea. However it looks like neon green trumpets to me. I know lighting varies from photos and tanks but it's very green. It's on the right in this pic if anyone wants to clarify.

Green Clown Goby update! He's learned that when I'm near the tank it means food so he isn't so shy anymore. It's funny to watch him inch closer to the glass waiting for food. And he's finally exploring other areas of the tank. This morning I found him in the fuzzy shroom! I see white spots on him but he eats great, I think it's just sand? He darts off the sand a lot.

Found my Green Clown dead this morning 😭 Trying to figure out what happened.

As of 5-30 this tank is fallow. I feel like this tank has been bad luck from the start. Ich and aiptasia already. I told myself just one tank but I can't go 76 days with no fish after setting this all up. That's crazy talk. So I've ordered a Fusion 20 which will be my new main tank and this tank will be a quarantine once the fallow is done. Corals however are doing well. One acan has grown 4 heads since getting it. Oddly the other acan that I got at the same time hasn't grown any. It's in a new spot now so I'll see how it does. I'm so happy montis are encrusting but I will end up having to remove them to make the qt.
