Mike P
Hello I just picked up my first coral frag (green star polyp) and was wondering if and how can you remove the coral from the plug. Quote Link to comment
seabass
GSP can be carefully peeled off of a plug. However, it might take a few days to open afterwards. Quote Link to comment
MainelyReefer
I take bone cutters and just cut the GSP right off the rock it has colonized, peeling was always trickier and caused rips occasionally that I consider to be harder to heal than a clean slice, causing more turnaround time for it to open up again. If the GSP isn't fully encrusted there is a chance it's fastened to a piece of rubble that was then fastened to the plug, in this event wedging a knife between rubble and plug will usually dislodge the coral from the plug. Congrats on the new coral and consider putting it on an island and not the main rock work as it will literally smother the rock it's placed on. Quote Link to comment
