Has anyone done  blue acro retrofit on a bc14 ? Looking to keep hood and not spend to much.

:welcome:

Although I don't have any experience with the Blue Acro retrofit, I can say that the NanoBox led has been more than i could ever ask for in my biocube14! They do sell a retrokit that will help you maintain the hood and is as simple as an install you can get with a led retrofit. Link to their product page HERE. The NanoBox retrofit does not require any soldering!

It really is a great base price of $230 and that includes a bluefish mini wireless controller which is typically $100 itself! SEE HERE

If you are not sold on the price I would suggest you price out what and how much it would be for parts from blue acro (Dont forget to price out a controller as well) and see how it compares in respect to the NanoBox retrofit which already comes pre-assembled for your Biocube 14.

If you happen to have question regarding the kit that is no explained on their site I would shot a pm to @DaveFason

Yes I know about nano box but I also have a very cheap wife so I'm looking for a less expensive fixture. If it were up to me it would be nano box all the way.

I think you should price out the "less expensive fixture" to have a proper price comparison to base off of. Again be sure to included pricing of everything you need to get that fixture installed, up, and running. You will be surprised how much it will equate too.

As with everything else in terms of purchase goods: You get what you pay for. Eventually it ends up costing you more in the end.

I used Steve's LEDs in mine http://www.stevesleds.com/Biocube-29-LED-Light-System--Extreme-SPS_p_182.html

Was pretty happy with the results. Only has 2 channel control though, but a little on the cheaper side.

Ends up being the same price as a nanobox retro but you get a hurricane controller instead of the bluefish. Bluefish mini option puts you over.

THIS is the proper link for the Biocube 14 btw

I've been looking to do the same on my bc14, as the stock lights won't even inspire my zoas to flourish. Recently I've seen USED AI Prime's for as little as $180 here in the hardware section. Yah, I know, with used you always take a risk and you'd have to cut a hole in the hood top and then figure out how to mount the light. BUT, the controller's built into the light and will run off you smart phone and/or computer. From what I have seen there's no way you'll ever run the fixture at 100%, so I'm saving up my "man money" for one. The older AI Hydra 26's will work too and you can find them for a song, but again, used equipment and a hole cut. Just remember: an aquarium is a hole you throw money into.

Man money? My wife is a bookkeeper there is NO money that is not accounted for lol. Yes I see maybe just try to stretch the current lights to their limit, save a little more and go nano box.

Fishy porn, love it just as addictive and can ruin a relationship because they don't get the staring endlessly at the tank thing.

Hmmm. The bookkeeper thing sounds familiar. RapidLED has some nice kits for converting to LED. Figure on $175 to get it started, and that includes potentiometers to manually control light percentage. I'm not sure if they're compatible with controller's, but I don't see why they wouldn't be. Again, more money in the hole, but you get to keep the top in one piece.
