Doing ammonia to start cycle

Just completed my afternoon test.

 

ph 8.0

ammonia 0ppm

nitrites 0ppm

nitrates ~15-20ppm

 

would I be able to do a 33% water change and add a cuc?

For safety and double checking i did a follow up nitrite test 

 

confirmed 0ppm

Yes you could.  However, assuming nitrate is actually 18 ppm, a 33% water change would only drop the level down to 12 ppm.  I would do a water change of 50% or more before adding any livestock.

I actually have water ready to go to do 50%. Planning ahead is success!
