Rpc07
Here is my current scenario, I have a reefer 170 and it comes with a very tiny ato reservoir which is not large enough as a fuge for nutrient export but I would like to create a place for pods to reproduce to support a future mandarin. Here is my current setup. My cheato doesn't thrive due to dosing nopox which I use to control my nutrients. If I fill that small reservoir with rubble rock is that sufficient for pods to reproduce and sustain a mandarin? Any tips or advice is welcome. Link to comment

IMHO You'd be better off culturing pods outside the tank and regularly pouring them in than trying to do it in line with the tank at that scale. Link to comment

fishfreak0114
Agreed with the above. You could run a couple different cultures and dump one in periodically. Link to comment

If you are using nopox to run a low nutrient tank, I am afraid that this can limit the food source for pods and simply adding rubble or cheato may not be enough to grow sufficient number of pods. Now if you use enough nopox to feed excess amount of foods, you should be able to grow tons of pods no problem. So I guess you need to ask yourself, does my tanks plan match up with my livestock? or in this case my livestocks food? If not then you need to find another way. An example is using an algae scrubber instead of nopox since it helps control nutrients but also provides a thriving environment for pods. Link to comment
Rpc07
I will look into culturing pods outside the tank. As far as me dosing nopox, I don't dose the full amount and keep my nitrates around 4-5ppm phosphate around .03 -.04 , I already feed heavy once a day, dose Red Sea reef energy a/b everyday, and broadcast feed the corals 3-4 days a week with reef roids. I also dose the fuge with phyto 3-4 days a week. Link to comment
Mariaface
Feed the pods directly 8D Link to comment
