Joe37
I have a standard 29 gallon tank and I have 2 nerite snails and 4 nassarius snails. I used to have 5 astrea snails but they have fallen over and die. I have a little bit of algae on my rocks and nothing is eating it. Should I get a different type of snail or maybe a crab to eat the algae? Link to comment
12_egg_Omelette
turbo, it honestly sounds like your CUC is really lacking through. I'm a big fan of blue leg hermit crags at 1 per gallon, plus a couple hand full of snails and at least 1 emerald crab (female). Link to comment
Joe37
I do also have 6 blue legs, scarlet hermit, feather duster, and a cleaner shrimp but the hermits don't do to much cleaning Also will turbos knock over my rocks. They are pretty stable but on not glued together Link to comment
amphipod
Stomatella, my favorite snail right now. Link to comment

Jennite
Turbo, but also, trochus snails are amazing. +1 on the trochus snails. I have 5 of them in my 30g. I also supplemented with 5 cerith snails and they burrow in the sand along with my 2 nassaruis. After adding the cerith's I've noticed a big difference. They were the only snails to climb and eat the algae on my frag plugs instead of using a soft toothbrush and are also active throughout the tank. Link to comment
The Aquarist
What about bumble bee snails? Bumblebee snails are types of whelks, they do not eat algae, but are strictly carnivorous. They will eat all your beneficial microfauna, so do not get them. Link to comment
Joe37
I think I'll try to add a trochus snail, 2 ceriths, and a scarlet hermit crab. I'll see if my LFS get order me some Link to comment

Joe37
I know my clean up crew is small but there's not much algae to eat. How about 2 trochus, 2 nerite, 2 ceriths, and a scarlet hermit Link to comment

HecticDialectics
I know my clean up crew is small but there's not much algae to eat. How about 2 trochus, 2 nerite, 2 ceriths, and a scarlet hermit Trochus are my fav. Scarlet hermit is just fun to watch. My tanks never had enough algae to support a crab or snail per gallon which to me sounds like gross overpopulation attempting to compensate for poor nutrient control. I'd ignore the counts and just get a few to start. Link to comment

ajmckay
dont stomatellas breed rapidly and take over your tank? I wish I had a stomatella (or any non-harmful snail for that matter) breed rapidly in my tank... Free food for the tank and free snails for the ones that survive. Link to comment
RG Rude
I have six red banded trochus snails. If you can find any surface algae in my 29 gal. AGA I'll eat it myself. They are awesome without the bulldozer act from a turbo. Link to comment

Joe37
I think I'll try to get stomatellas if my LFS can get me some. If they can should I get rid of the 2 nerites or 2 ceriths Link to comment
mystersyster
I didn't see if anyone said but dwarf ceriths are the best. Link to comment
Joe37
So I jsyt ordered some snails online at reed cleaners. I ordered 1 zig zag periwinkle, 1 nerite snail, 3 trochus snails, 2 dwarf ceriths, and a mystery macro algae that they have on sale for a penny. The macro algae is going into my display since I don't have a sump. Right now I only have 1 nerite snail and 4 nassarius snails. Do yall think this will be good to combat my algae. Link to comment
shawnd08
I've had great success with margirita snails. I had gha bloom due to the poor water I was getting from a lfs. I threw a few margirita snails in and have watched them devoursections of rock with gha. Link to comment
Newstead
Love the stomatellas that suddenly appeared a few weeks ago in my 5 month old replacement tank. Have seen as many as 4 but just 1 the past few days. There is one black one but this guy is the boldest. Link to comment
