farkwar
Looks nice. If I do another, ill use the C channel instead if making it. Dmitry gave me the hookup on diffusion panel. If you need it, its pretty inexpensive for the actual panel. 90 something transmission. http://www.acrylite-shop.com/US/us/acrylite-satinice/two-sided-velvet-texture-cx2tw0dadf1.html Shipping is more than the panel. Its packed by anal retentive Germans. Thats the two sided stuff, they have single sided too, link over in side bar. Link to comment
CrazyEyes
That was definitely one thing I thought about doing instead of just normal acrylic splash guards. I used something similar on my first light build and was really happy with the way it looked. That shipping though is pretty killer though. Link to comment
CrazyEyes
Took the pieces to a welding shop today to have them cut down better, apparently wearing my Gators jersey was a good idea because he did it for free lol. Now I just need to rough up where I'll be bonding them and then bond them. http://s27.photobucket.com/user/DrftNme/media/10745037_873083296044823_918984335_n_zpsd159b799.jpg.html'> http://s27.photobucket.com/user/DrftNme/media/10726609_873082812711538_1127072185_n_zpsca0bc215.jpg.html'> Link to comment
CrazyEyes
PS. JB weld is f*cking badass! Link to comment
CrazyEyes
Still need to bond a few things together but, I picked up some more 1/8" aluminum for the middle section. This is where I'll be mounting the drivers, PS and possibly the controller. There is also another piece of 1/8" aluminum that will sit on this top piece so there is no gap between the aluminum channel and the middle piece. http://s27.photobucket.com/user/DrftNme/media/10743313_874266739259812_303128184_n_zps3e911d5f.jpg.html'> Link to comment
CrazyEyes
Picked up some T5 end caps and reflectors so I think I am going to turn this into a T5/LED light so it will be x4 Bridgelux Vero10 90CRI 5k whites x8 Luxeon K 8up royal blues x28 430nm hyper violets x8 Rebel ES limes x2 39w T5HO's (unsure of what bulbs to use along side the LEDs). Any thoughts on what color bulbs? Link to comment
Horerczy
Maybe some variety of actinic. I dunno. I'm not very creative when it comes to mixing T5s into an LED array. Link to comment
jedimasterben
ATI Coral Plus or Giesemann Aquablue Coral. Then tune the Brigelux whites to taste. Link to comment
CrazyEyes
So either x2 coral plus or x2 aquablue coral? Link to comment
jedimasterben
That's what I'd do, yes. Link to comment
CrazyEyes
Well damn man, I'll take your word. Pretty stoked to have a T5/LED light. Something I've wanted for awhile now. Link to comment
CrazyEyes
I love this welding shop by me, every time I call and ask for something it's always bring us a $10 bill and we'll get you what you need. Picked up some 1/8" wall 1 3/4 square aluminum tubing. Makes the overall length 37", which is going to be perfect for the 39w T5s. Alright so don't laugh, I just rigged these end pieces up with some packing tape to get an idea how it would look lol. http://s27.photobucket.com/user/DrftNme/media/10751680_877626568923829_1171537492_n_zps4319a27b.jpg.html'> http://s27.photobucket.com/user/DrftNme/media/10743327_877626622257157_1693052543_n_zpsfefcca99.jpg.html'> Link to comment
CrazyEyes
Picked up the endcaps today, now I just have to get the bulbs so I can make sure everything is the proper length, then wire it ofcourse. And picked up a frag tank so figuring that out too. Link to comment
CrazyEyes
Thoughts, keep the conduit or go with 1" aluminum square tubing for the light hangers? http://s27.photobucket.com/user/DrftNme/media/10806887_881628831856936_204272281_n_zps74379e48.jpg.html'> http://s27.photobucket.com/user/DrftNme/media/10805207_881628551856964_1914662683_n_zps7b88f73f.jpg.html'> And yeah, I did a f*cking horrible job at drilling the conduit for the hanging kit, my name isn't crazy eyes for nothing. They're both way off center. Those are the little things that make me want to redo them again. No no lol. Don't just like it, tell me it looks like garbage or good, give me some input on how to make it look better Link to comment
neuwave
I just ordered tslot aluminum rails for myself. But your pic looks good though Link to comment
CrazyEyes
I've thought about using 80/20 too but that sh*t is so expensive. I'd need about 14 feet of so it would get pricey quick. A buddy of mine welds (mig and tig) so I may end up picking up some square tubing and having him weld some hangers for me, might just go with 1" steel square tubing because this light has a bit of weight to it and I know the 1" steel will handle it just fine. farkwar
If you own the bender, just do it again. Dont do full 90 degree, allow a few degrees for bend under the weight of your hefty light. I bet even 1 inch 80/20 will sag a bit. 80/20 has an eBay store. The profiles are rather affordable. Its the connectors that add up the cost fast. Conduit. Drill the holes before you bend.Use conduit straps as a jig, and to clamp it down to workbrench. Jig, take a two side conduit strap, drill a hole through it upside down through the middle of the U, turn over, use as jig to hold bit in placed. Or use a small punch set point to set your hole. CrazyEyes
Oh yeah, 1" 80/20 would definitely sag with this pig ass light under it. 1" square steel might be the way to go, 14 feet of 1" 16 steel tubing is like $20 cut to the lengths I need, then $20 to weld it. Link to comment
Dramad1
Wow, looks killer man. Really nice job. What size t5s will you be using? I would ditch the conduit and go with the square tubing, just for overall appearance as well as, so it kinda matches the light fixture. Plus you would be able to redrill the hanging kit. Lol Link to comment

Unless you get the steel pro painted, its going to look really DIY. Link to comment
CrazyEyes
Thanks man. Running 2x39w bulbs. I was going to use square tubing just for that reason, the fact it would match the shape of the fixture. Conduit is so cheap I didnt mind buying it to see if I liked it, and I think I officially dont. 80/20 comes anodized black. Unless you get the steel pro painted, its going to look really DIY. It steel more difficult to paint than aluminum? Maybe I will just use 1/8" wall 1" aluminum square tubing with gussets in the corner to stiffen it up a bit. Link to comment

CrazyEyes
I know alot of people like a more non industrial look but I really like the industrial look so I'm pretty please with the way it's coming out so far. Link to comment

Aluminum should be anodized or powder coated. Steel should be primered, then powder coated.Thats one thing stalling my build is anodizing 3 feet long aluminum. That and tank change, with dimension changes. http://stores.ebay.com/8020-Inc-Garage-SaleShop it, some of the 15 is cheaper than the 10.Some 20 is cheaper than both. No painting needed. They have end caps and all the connectors you can afford. Will retain an industrial look. Another option is Kee Klamp with black iron or galvanized tubing. Thats industrial too, no painting needed. CrazyEyes
Went ahead and picked up some 1" 1/8th wall aluminum square tubing (x2 75" pieces and x2 12" pieces), also picked up x8 1"x1" 1/8" wall aluminum angle (to mount the hangers to the stand) which only set me back $38, welding will be free so I guess it's not too bad.
