I also prefer not to know how much I spent, but the $1000+ price tags make me feel better about what I did spend. I got some of my equip, rock, and cleanup crew second hand, (which also had the bonus of no curing time), and some on discounts and online shops. Premium aquatics discounted the aquafuges recently, just not sure if they still are. Lights are a ton cheaper online then retail (by about half around here in CT). I only buy the 5 gal bags of oceanic salt at a time, since that will get me through a few waterchanges.

Corals can be aquired as frags if you know people to trade with (once you can grow a few out to frag). Another option is your local reef club.. mine does a raffle and has some frags there as well as other stuff donated by whomever. I have read posts where people went to lfs's and some have a frag tank where the pieces fragged off accidentally from cleaning are sold cheap or given away.

Most of you can save tons of money by joining a reef club in your area. If there is not one around , start one. You will find people more that willing to give out free frags to newbies and people who are starting over again like me.

I have found those more accurate than the coralife ones. No joke!

I hate the coralife meters.

ive spent about 400 -450 on my nanocube so far, for cube, marshall island cured rock, sand, water, cleanup crew, rip true perc, rip cleaner shrimp, small frag of zoos, and two decent sized colonies of green star polyps/xenia or whatever, heater and ph buffer, and salifert coral something. ill easily dump another 200 into more rock, livestock and corals, easy

the lfs i go to sells fully setup nanocubes with some nice corals, fish, lr, ls and everything for like 550, i thought it was a rip, but now it doesnt seem like a bad deal

:P Well I guess it doesnt matter how much you spent, as long as you feel like you got your money's worth!

-Some people work to pimp their ride, some use it for bills, some for drugs -- and people like me buy fancy sea slugs ;) hahah

I want to give you an answer but my wife might read this, so lets just say it's a bit north of a monthly mortgage payment on a 4 Bdr house in Southern Calif. However that's for a 12 gal. I'm certain that if I had gotten a 10gal it would have been significantly less. :D

it's really hard to say. idunno how you guys can add all this up. for the 10gal i set up there were soooo many freebies. she got the tank set up from her dad for X-mas so a friend of her's bought her the stand. i donated a bunch of LR, HOB filter, & LS when we first set up. she bought the light & everything to hand it. she also bought the heater and i think that's it. i buy the livestock, and have put hundreds of dollars worth of frags in there. the cool thing about a nano is how cheap the corals can be. :D

Your going to need a turkey baster!(best tool ever!!!!) (must have, need, required etc..) buckets, and add about in excess of $75-100 for stuff you won't realize you need until you really need it (hint: find a lfs open late, really helpful ppl at those places!) If you want you can also add a little more ~$50 for stuff that will die and you will want to replace.

I havent completely set it up yet. But here is my plan:

10g tank - $10 - LFS

90g jug Oceanic Salt - $35 - LFS

15lbs live rock w/ shipping - $80 - Premium Aquatics

96w Powerquad w/ legs, .75w moonlight and shipping - $120

I had everything else laying around: heater, pumps, sand, misc.
