Ivery
I got to looking for artifacts encrusted with reef for a project. That's how o found these pics. I want to design a piece like what the diver is swimming over. I wants t to use something like a Spanish olive jar. There are alot of shipwrecks in the carrabiens I want to use as a guide. I'm going with one called the Tortuga from the 1600 s. It will be a biotope from the carrabiens reef. But the little bottles I thought were cool and easy to add a artifact so to speak to any tank. Here's a few medicine bottles I got at a antique store earlier. There All early 1900 s. I decided to clean and use the clear Pyrex. I put it in my 12 gallon. Link to comment

noahJT
Would there be any chance of older leaded glass slowing leaching nasty stuff into the water? Link to comment
Ivery
Good? , and I'm unsure. Maybe someone else wouald know, But ill research it some. Link to comment
Kiwi
usually glass is chamically almost dead. even in a very high ph (13,14) it would take years to be dissolved…. and ph8.2 in our tanks is not very strong^^ Link to comment
Ruester007
Would there be any chance of older leaded glass slowing leaching nasty stuff into the water? None. The only glass you would really need to worry about would be uranium based depression glass. But considering the value of those pieces I wouldn't put it in a tank anyway. Link to comment
Kiwi
I have just put a little test tube into the tank… I 'd like to see, if something is going to grow on it without placing any coral on it…. Link to comment
wow.such.chris
Awesome idea! I think you may have an extremely hard time trying to aquire Caribbean corals and may want to look to the Pacific. Link to comment

I just googled this stuff.. that's freaking awesome.. and it DOES glow under UV light.. learn something new every day Would there be any chance of older leaded glass slowing leaching nasty stuff into the water? I don't know the answer to this, but I know there has been talk about not putting whiskey into crystal (lead based glass) decanters, IIRC the lead leached into or had a reaction with the whiskey and it changes the flavor.. I think there were even concerns over its safety.. Link to comment
Ivery
Look at Fenton glass if you want some that's flouresent. Highly collectible, can be pricey, but awesome colors. They do sell slag pieces online. You can find Fenton at alot of antique stores, online, and at grandmas. Just don't tell her what its for.lol I took my little bottle and dropped some fresh corraline in it. Hope it kick it off pretty quick. Link to comment

Ivery
I've got a experiment going. I've been reading on oven baked clays for aquariums. And the reviews say its OK . So I went to wallmart and got some. With a box of rock salt. I mixed in some rock, regular table salt and crushed coral. The clay became very tacky!! Put it on a piece of foil and started creating. Afterward I let cool some and rinsed under hot water to remove bulk of salt. Then put on stove in really warm water to continue dissolve Ingram salt. Now I put in back of toilet tank to get anymore. Ivery
Made a new one today. Great indoor project when it rains. Pic don't show the passages and detail. Still soaking to get the salt to dissolve. And become more pouris. http://s328.photobucket.com/user/knap_123/media/Mobile%20Uploads/131209_0033.jpg.html'> http://s328.photobucket.com/user/knap_123/media/Mobile%20Uploads/131209_0029.jpg.html'> Link to comment
