gqlmao
Haha, we will see I don't think I can smuggle these pieces past the Canadian border. Oh damn, amazing. Can you be my secret Santa? Hahaha. I got them from a vendor out in Toronto, on the other side of the country. He seems to have some of the most amazing LPS collections, not to mention the main reef raft branch is there. Most of all my corals come from the East side of Canada. Where did you get all of them? On another note: I will update my SPS tank as soon as I feel like it is worthy, I am still having problems with low nutrients and pale colors. It might take a while to get some pictures. I have finally collected the SPS pieces I want, Here is a teaser list: RR Jumba Juice RR Wolverine RR Pink Floyd RR Red Bull RR Red Diablo RR Blue Matrix RR Pink Matrix RR CJ Pinky RR Poison Ivy RR Orange Passion RR Purple Monster RR unknown pieces RR Magma (Died but getting another piece) RR Blizzard (Died but getting another piece) RR Blue Peacock RR Subzero Purple Planet Strawberry Shortcake (2 types) RR Pearlberry Tyree Pink Lemonade So look foward to it I wasn't easy getting my hands on all these pieces. gqlmao
Small update: My sps are doing much better now, most of all the colors are starting to come back. Not much brownies any more growth is starting to accelerate as well. I have increased feedings substantially and have been using zeovit and fine particulate foods to feed the corals at night. I am happy with the progress so far. I think in a matter of months the tank will be all colored up at this pace. I have ordered a small frag tank to be placed next to the main tank. It will be plumbed directly into the existing sump and the tank will house, acans, zoas, chalices, rics and SPS frags. The dimensions are 30"x15"x8" and will be full starphire with beveled and polished edges, using 3/8" glass. http://s298.photobucket.com/user/gqlmao/media/Reef%20Tank/NewFragTank_zps984caa5f.jpg.html'> Link to comment

gqlmao
Chalices need stability more than typical LPS. I heard Alk swings and high light cause cause issues. I am just starting to get into the chalices, I don't know what the hype is but hopefully I will soon find out I have one chalice and its hurting havent grown a bit and lost most of its colors. A quick update: My SPS are looking better and better, I am happy with the progress. The reef raft pieces are growing very fast and I am using alk and cal like no tomorrow. I am sitting at 1 gallon of half saturated kalkwasser, and around 30 ml of alk being dosed daily, this works out to be around 60ml of alk. It is only increasing as of right now, alk is barely staying above 7 right now. The massive alk use may be partially due to my whole bottom being covered in coraline algae. I think I found the key for SPS, heavy nutrient in, heavy export after while retaining good water parameters which detectable nutrients. I feed 2 times a day, each feeding consists of pellets and frozen, I feed till the fish don't eat anymore or show little interest. The skimmer seems to be doing a good job, my nutrient levels are staying in tack, I am running GFO on the heavier side to keep the phosphates hovering around .05ppm. Algae grows faster now but I added 3 emerald crabs, 4 turbos and a few red hermits to keep the algae on the rocks down. Zeovit AA, pohl's xtra, spongepower and vitalizer are still being used. I am also feeding the corals once a day with a pre frozen mixture of cyclopeeze, reef roids and acan plus. It might be placebo but I think the fine particle foods are working, SPS have shown significant growth and colors over the last 2 weeks I have been feeding . Due to the heavy feeding, my sump is now covered in sponges and goodies to help pre-filter or the water. I was planning to upgrade to a BK mini 180 since I am plumbing another tank in this setup, making volume approx 55 gallons but I am hesitating since I won't know if I will have the organics to build a consistent foam head. I will decide once I feel like the SRO isn't able to keep up with the heavy bio load demands. Link to comment
gqlmao
A small update, some more Reef Raft and SPS Pieces for the SPS fans, I am very happy that the colors are coming on. I think a couple more months and I will have something more substantial to show: Strawberry Short Cake, it has been paling and losing color around the base ever since it touched my tank. gqlmao
Hey, sorry I haven't been updating my tanks. I have been struggling with some kind of infection/epidemic that are affecting only my acans, I have lost over half my acans, they are slowly deteriorating, the flesh is just falling off, no matter what I do, I have tried every kind of dip possible, feed once every 2 days and even treated the whole tank. I guess this is why I haven't been as active as I should of been. So further news, I still keep up with the weekly maintenance but that is about it. I haven't added anything else since the decline of my acans. The new tank has been running with the new system for 2 months now. I have a lot of super rare zoas that are sprouting like mad so there is a plus side to things. My SPS and zoas are doing amazing, the growth is insane and colors are great, SPS frags have nearly tripled in size. My alk consumption has never been higher. I am at 50ml a day + 1 gallon of half saturated kalk wasser top off water. This is very high considering my tank volume for SPS is only 26 gallons. Bump. How big are your frags now? Link to comment

I will update the thread with new pictures soon! I have some super nice zoas too The tank has been getting very little attention now that summer is here. Since I haven't been touching the tank very much, every time I decide to clean the dirty glass I find that the SPS colors get better and better. Life is good when dosing and top off is automated. gqlmao
No I haven't, I can't use any kind of medication that is long term and remains in the tank since majority of my corals are SPS. I rather not take the gamble. Out of all the dips I would of thought hydrogen peroxide would killed it all but I guess this one is persistent. This is a valuable learning lesson for me, having lost this much LPS without a clue on whats happening leads me to think somethings aren't in my control. Darn, was hoping that was it, you've tried Melafix dip as well? Link to comment
