reeferman81
man everytime i come on here i wish my tank looked that good, sucks about the 1500 disapearing, but its good they are replacing it. how much light would you recommend for a hammer coral or frog spawn? Thanks appreciate the compliment. What type lighting are you running? Link to comment
tetraodon
its a wave point 8watt 6 blue and 2 white lights. ive done reasurch and most places say moderate light, just curious what you thought Link to comment
reeferman81
I'd put it mid tank in good flow not high flow just enough to make it dance frogspawns are pretty hardy. Link to comment
tetraodon
ok will do, also ive read mixed things about its aggression, some said nothing within 6 inches, and some have said close is fine but not touching. think my mushrooms and zoas will be ok? i was thinking of putting it on the side without my other coral Link to comment
reeferman81
I would make sure you have ample room around it. It could melt zoas and ricordea. Link to comment

FlowerMama
So what would you say is your biggest challenge having gone from 300 to 8? Link to comment
reeferman81
So what would you say is your biggest challenge having gone from 300 to 8? Well I still have my 300gal reef up and running strong, a 90 gal as well. With the 300 gallon I have a 150 gal sump which over half is a refugium also water changes on my big tank suck but I would have to say in a nano tank nutrient export also temp of the water but other than that they are relative I don't dose my nano because of twice a week water changes I use B-Ionic salt system which in my opinion is the best salt out there calcium, magnesium, and alkalinity are always awesome plus on a ionic level the b-ionic salt is about as close to actual ocean water as your going to get. nicholc2
Out of curiosity, what schedule and intensities are you running your Nano on this tank? Are you doing a custom schedule or one of the built in ones? Link to comment
reeferman81
A custom schedule due to the pre programmed doesn't know what corals I have and if you start out at 100% it will fry your corals. I don't go above 40% at the highest point in the day due the size of the tank and it stays at this intensity for a couple hours. I don't know it at the top of my head when I get off work I'll get you the schedule. Looking good. That is a lot of shrimp Did I count correctly form the pics? 4 sexy shrimp and 2 cleaners. That is correct and the cleaners molt on a regular basis. I have 25 cleaners in my 300gal reef Link to comment

Right now I'm running GBR mode with the highest intensities of 45%w, 60% b, 60% rb I believe. I was afraid to try anything myself for fear I might do more harm than good. Link to comment
Polarcollision
My nano sol at 55% bleached all my SPS on an 8 gallon tank. Now it doesn't go above 35%. All surviving corals have most of their colors back after ~4 months. Link to comment

With my own experience and what I've seen from others, I think with LEDs (to a certain degree of course) it isn't so much how high you take than, but more importantly how fast you take them there. I think intensity shock is more damaging than the intensity itself. Now of course on an 8g nano you'd never run 100% which is why I said "to a certain degree". Link to comment

Yeah, I read about that and was cautious, increasing the light by 3% about once a week. A pocillopora directly under the light RTNd and took out half of my SPS and the rest bleached. Hopefully others have better luck, but throwing that out there as my horrible example since I apparently learn just about everything the hard way. :-) Link to comment
