Well when the ammonia spikes, the cycle is well on its way, you should remove the shrimp at that point.

I decided to change my method after learning that my cycle wasnt going to good. so I seeded it with some live rock.

Hey guys,

haven't said much in a while since I have just been waiting for the tank to cycle and it finally finished its cycle a couple of days ago. I haven't done a water change yet because I have a couple of questions first. Is it ok for me to add my purigen,chemi-pure and then do water change or do I add then and wait a day or 2 for water change?

thanks!

Hey guys,

So I finally finished my cycle and did a water change yesterday morning

here are the params as of today: ph8.0, ammonia 0, nitrites 0 and nitrates 0.

Im extremely pleased with everything after a bumpy start.

So today I went to the LFS this afternoon and picked up 2 small Occelaris Clowns, 1 pink tip bubble

anemone and 2 turbo algae eating snails.

Also I hooked up my Tunze protein skimmer and wow I my whole tank is filled with microbubbles, its pretty bad actually.

I did the mod to the protein skimmer so now Ill give a couple of day to see if it clears up.

Ill post pics tomorrow.

Thanks!!

Hey Kat,

I took the copperband back not to long ago he was nibbling on my corals so he's was out and brought back to LFS. Ill post pictures later but I now have 2 bengal cardinals and several more frags ;)

As for the surface skimming I havent had much luck. I was changing the floss daily to see if it would help but to Stevie's advise he asked me to leave it for a couple more days,I actually thought it would work but it didnt make a difference. I final changed it out because it was messing with my water level/ATO. Im seriously debating adding a sump to see if it would help but I would be upset if it didnt. Not really sure what else to do. Floss is clean, purigen is good, CPE is clear and tied to the top rack, water level is about 1/4 below intake chamber, not using the stock surface skimmer doesnt make much of difference and I have the extended tubes on the return pumps, not sure what else to do. Im not even using a protein skimmer. I do weekly regular water changes every Saturday so that shouldnt be an issue. Im beat dont know what else to try but this has been going for almost 2 months now. Ive thought of adding external canister filter but found out those can be nitrate bombs thats why im flirting with the idea of a sump. Do you think it might help?

cheers!

Did you get my message about the DT water level needing to be lower?

I did. The water level is about 1/4" lower then the black plastic trim so you see the water level when looking at the tank.

Hey guys,

well I have some sad news and good news (pending how you look at it) well after owning the RSM for 3 months I just couldnt keep it, I love the look of the tank and the whole idea of having the 2 circulation pumps, hidden power bar center etc. But the one thing I couldnt stand was micro bubbles and floating detritus. I tried everything I could think of plus hours spent online trying to figure this out with lots of trial and error, but no success. Everything was thriving but that tank was pita to look at with all those things floating around. It was pretty bad ill post picture for you guys to see what i was dealing on a daily bases regardless of adjustments that were made. My previous tank was a biocube HQI and compared to the RSM those extra 5 gallons were amazing to have. But if I had to say which tank I enjoyed more watching hands down it was the HQI (hi temps were the only downfall). Build quality was incredible but for filtration/circulation which ever one it was it didnt impress me at all. I had my tank for a little over 3 months and I never had one day with out microbubbles or debirs floating around. I decided to sell the RSM but kept all the add ons MP10,Tunze ATO,Reefkeeper, all my test kits and someother stuff that doesnt come to mind. I dont have the tank anymore but Im not quiting the hobby just getting another tank.

Im sure this must be a isolated incident since there are plenty of you who love your RSM's unfortunatly it didnt work out for me.

ill keep you posted on what Im getting next Solana, cadlights or even HQi again who knows!

Sorry to hear but I feel sure that a better tank is around the corner for you.

Thanks Kat,

Its a bummer :( I always wanted one of those tanks but I was genuinely having a hard time with it. Im a pretty patient person especially when something interests me but this was just to much. Not sure about you but when Im on my way home from work Im thinking about the tank and how excited I will be to see it when I get there only to be let down day after day and trail after trail.

There is marine and aquarium store about 2 hours away from me incredibleaquarium.com but there warehouse is only 35minutes away.

Im hoping that I can send the payment to him and hopefully go pick up at the warehouse.I would like to try something new but they are currently having a special on Biocube HQI for 399.00 up here for us in Canada thats a really good deal. I went to Big Al's today they want 750 for tank only (not really surprised) Im not sure yet but I think I might be going back to HQI.

After spending time on there web site they also seem to have some really nice livestock.
