metrokat
This little piece of macro has suddenly cropped up in between my acans. It seems to be growing from one of the plugs that the acan came on. What is it and should I get rid of it or try to grow it out? Color is an olive greenish/brownish Texture is smooth, it is not slimy Thank you Link to comment
Bongo Shrimp
Looks like some kind of Gelidium. Pic on the right side of this page: http://www.algaebase.org/search/species/de.../?species_id=15 Link to comment
metrokat
Hmm, it's not as feathery, more flat leafed. Link to comment
Bongo Shrimp
Some Gelidium is pretty flat. IDK I could definitely be wrong. Link to comment
metrokat
okay I'll look up gelidium some more, thank you Link to comment
patback
It sorta looks like the "turf" algae that broke out in my tank. Nip it in the butt, IMO. It jumped from one lone rock, to two, and now every single one of my rocks has some to a degree. Link to comment
drunkenmonk21
I can't see it well on my phone but it may be a type of dictoya Link to comment
Islandoftiki
I can't make out the structure too well. Is it perhaps Dictyota as Drunkenmonk21 suggested? Here's a bunch of pics. http://www.horta.uac.pt/species/algae/Dict...a_dichotoma.htm Link to comment
johnmaloney
Looks like some kind of Gelidium. Pic on the right side of this page: http://www.algaebase.org/search/species/de.../?species_id=15 +1, or some other related wirey red. Either way, pain to remove..fairly slow growth unlikely to spread throughout a tank fast but persistent nonetheless. Link to comment
metrokat
But it's olive green in color. Link to comment
lakshwadeep
It's definitely a red algae (Rhodophyta). Some of them have a sheen, not just green but also blue, that masks the base color. Link to comment
metrokat
Okay, I pulled it out and took pictures. Link to comment
